Haunting Female Vocalists

Post by Kionon » Tue Jun 14, 2005 2:21 pm

Kewp's Waking Hour made me find some Vienna Teng's work. She has some great songs, and I was hoping someone's could suggest other female vocalists with the same eerily beautiful style. If you haven't heard of her, watch Waking Hour, free pimpage for Kewp because I want more songs like gravity.

though you wouldnt know it from the uplifting songs they play on the radio from evanescence.. "haunted" from them has kinda creepy haunting vocals, though not many people would give them a chance after the radio singles... their other stuff isnt too bad

And Jakalope (not jackalope you'll never find it) Trent Reznor (from NIN) produced her album.. its kinda techo-y metal-y, hard to decribe, you'd have to have a listen and categorize it for yourself

The lead singer of Poe...in fact, they have a song called "Haunted" as well :P

Her voice is reminiscent of Jem (also haunting) and Dido (who I guess could be haunting if she wanted to be).
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Actually I think the lead singer IS Poe. Anywho I actually plan on doing a vid to "Haunted" if I stop being lazy about it.

Poe is Poe yes. Her brother wrote House of Leaves, and is the one talking in "Hey Pretty." In fact, the words are passages from his book.

And I wanted more obscure women. Basically people I have never heard of.

Anathema has some beautiful female vocals (Anna Livingstone)

Try Peccatum for creepy and haunting (Ihriel)

Ayreon makes use of some beautiful female vocals through out the albums.
(Lana Lane, Heather Findlay, Marcela Bovio)

Star One (Floor Jansen)

Therion (Marika Schonberg, Erika Andersson)

Loreena McKennitt (sure more well known, but still awesome)
I fear the little people.

Any song by Zero 7 that has Tina Dico doing the vocals. Pretty much the only one off the top of my head is "Home" but I think she sings another on When It Falls...just not sure where I put the CD right off hand....:(

Never heard of? Emiliana Torrini.
She sang "Gollum's Song" for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
She's a little reminiscent of Bjork, I think.
I recently acquired her album, "Fisherman's Woman" and I'm still kinda fishin' around for an anime for one of those songs (Pun intended).
I'm thinkin' "Sunny Road" but I haven't decided. Alot of the songs have the same type of feel to them.
Still a little "haunting" in her voice, though, I think.

Otep... Maybe not considered "haunting", but the lead vocalist (female) could very well be Corey Taylor's long lost sister or something.
Be non-conformist! (Everyone's doing it!)
I guess Max Payne isn't much of a yaoi fan...
