Memorable Lyrics....

Post by Iamshadowkiller » Tue Aug 27, 2002 4:42 pm

What is it that makes a lyric memorable? To some, it is the way that you can relate to that song...or to a specific set of lyrics....to some, it brings back long lost memories..some sad, some happy.....sometimes, lyrics can mean more than they appear to while other times, they mean nothing....everyone who listens to music, which I assume, is everybody, is affected in one way or another by certain lyrics, now while it is true that not all songs have lyrics......the majority do...and while it is also true that the same lyric will not have the same effect on everyone, the fact is that everyone knows a specific song, or a specific set of lyrics which they hold in their mind, and for some reason, will never forget. NOw this is where the important part of this post comes in.....here are some lyrics which, as of late, I have found to be the most memorable for me, I will post mine....and I encourage others to do the same...if you'd like...=)

"we're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year.."-Pink Floyd [Wish you were here]
"goodbye my friend , it's hard to die, when all the birds are singing in the sky"-Terry Jacks [Seasons in the Sun]
"cause you can't trust freedom when it's not in your hand, when everybody's fighting for the promise land"-Guns n' Roses [Civil War]
"mamma, I don't want to die, I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all"-Queen [Bohemian Rhapsody]
"I close my eyes, only for a moment and that moment's gone"-Kansas [Dust in the Wind]
"who wants to live forever, who dares to love forever, when love must die"-Queen [Who Wants to Live Forever]
"would you know my name? if I saw you in heaven"-Eric Clapton [Tears in Heaven]
---
These are few of many, this post is already long enough as it is....perhaps I'm just wasting your time with my nonsense....but we have to admit that the lyrics of the songs we listen to do have an impact....somehow...-_-....thanks to all who actually read the whole post...

"Hurt", by Nine Inch Nails has some great lyrics :

"I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel.
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real."

And for french people :p :

Noir Désir - "L'homme pressé"

"On crache la nourriture
a ces yeux affamés.
Vous voyez qu'ils demandent,
nous les savons avides
de notre pourriture".

I would contribute but music is so much a part of my soul (I say that seriously) that it is hard to pick my favorites.

I also wanted to add to your list of why music affects us. For me, it is all the things you said and sometimes it's just the way the singer sang the lyrics. A great example is Rob Zombie of the bands White Zombie and Rob Zombie. He sings the words in such a way that it hooks me and pulls me in. He's hypnotizing to some degree. NIN does this too but not as much.

Standing inline to see the show tonight
and there's a light on
Heavy Glow

By the way i tried to say
I'd be there
waiting for

Dani the girl who sang the songs to me
beneith the marqui
Overload

I love that song its the greatest and thoes lyrics stick with me all the time no reason in particular. For lyrics to me memorable you have to like the song!

For me it has to be No Leaf Clover by Metallica. In my opinion, it is the best song ever, and it is my favourite song ever. I just love the lyrics, too.

No Leaf Clover

And it feels right this time
On this crash course we're in the big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
Beauty fills his head with wonder, boy....

Says it feels right this time
Turn around, found new high lights
Good day to be alive Sir
Good day to be alive, he said.....

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
is just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
is just the freight train coming your way

Don't it feel right like this
All the pieces fall to his wish
Suck up for that quick reward boy
Suck up for that quick reward they said.....

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
is just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
is just the freight train coming your way......
It's coming your way
It's coming your way......
Here it comes

Yeah, Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just a freight train coming your way.... Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah
