Chinese or Japanese?

I have been listening to "Chinese Techno National Anthem" by Leon Lai for hours now on repeat. The song says Chinese - but the singer sounds Japanese. I have a lot of Japanese music and this sounds no different. My brother insists that he's singing in Chinese while I maintain that it's in Japanese.

So, for those who have heard it: Who is right?
Me? *light of heaven shines and celestial music plays*
or
Him?: *the song "A Whole New World" from Disney's Alladin plays.*

Chinese. Most likely Cantonese, although it may be Mandarin.
