Aussies,

I have the opportunity to establish residency down under either this coming March or the following March.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Sydney, and I visited Canberra once, a close cousin of mine is also moving to Sydney in May, and so I'm leaning towards Sydney. I've been able to work out that rent is pretty high, higher than Japan even which is shocking, but I know from my previous experience that food is about the same as Japan. I'm used to unlimited broadband and phone data on my iPhone, so I'm sure that's going to hurt. I had Optus on my iPhone when I was last there, and I have tethering, and so that's how I kept online, and I don't recall it being excessive, but it certainly wasn't fast.

Here's the thing, I'm not planning to do this temporarily. I'm actually plugging this into an application for permanent residency after two years, and citizenship after four. Without going into great detail, this is not a decision made on a whim. The opportunity is limited to a window of about three years. After that, I will lose it...

So, uhm... Thoughts?
