Sigh, I was hoping this thread wouldn't degrade into that. Oh well, since I haven't gotten a chance to add in my two bits, I must say that I'm basically not a fan of most current bands, simply because in my eyes many of them have totally lost touch with artistic vision and have fallen to gimmiks and cash raking. Not that I am against people making money, but when it dominates your artistic vision, what's the point of even trying anymore? For every Tool there is a System of a Down, for every KMFDM there is a Marylin Manson of NIN, for every King Crimson...well, you get the idea(plus I couldn't think of anything to go with King Crimson). That's why I generally stick to older rock unless I find a good indy band like Jim's Big Ego or something along those lines.
Oh, and on another note, while I may say I hate rap and country, that's just because I'm unfairly generalizing for the sake of brevity. I like some of the older rap and some underground rap/hip hop, and as for country, well, I don't really listen to enough of it to really say, but I can state that Credence Clearwater Revival and Cracker are awesome, although they are not pure country and mix a good amount of rock in.
So as for "New Rock" as Mr. Ramonesfan/fanatical Christian called it, I see it as the same as any other group, whether it be music, anime, people, whatever: "There are a couple of winners, and a whole lotta losers" - George Carlin
