Re: Yo ride
more necroposting, wooo.
my beast:

1992 Eagle Summit
bought it for 70$ as kind of an afterthought. it was something along the lines of "i need another car to get me around since the other one rusted to pieces. oh hey, the one is a 5-speed, and only 70$? sure why not".
turned out to like it a little more than i expected though.
i have about 2500$ into the car in performance parts now :S
Whiteline Sport Springs(best ones i can get for it, had to be ordered out of australia ><)
KYB GR-2 struts and shocks
1 1/16" custom rear sway bar
larger front brakes
rear disc brake conversion
MOMO steering wheel
new gauge cluster w/tachometer
alloy rims and sporty tires
debadged, and then rebadged as a Mitsubishi Mirage(same car, just we didn't get cars badged as that in Canada)
put the seats out of my much sportier Mitsubishi Galant into it
new ECU, and some other power adding fiddly bits on the engine
(there's more and i'd go into detail, but i doubt anyone here is interested)
and when that was all done, i went and raced the shit out of it at the local autocross events.

i've got more plans for it(lightweight alloy rims, stickier tires, an engine swap), but that's all for later.
it's off the road for the winter right now, buried under almost 2 feet of snow, so that the salt can't attack the rusty bits.
and there you have it, my ride(and what i've been doing instead of editing for that last few years ><).

Re: Yo ride
My ride in Japan is just embarrassing. If I stay much longer, I will probably buy another civic hatch or a fit. Kei cars suck.
Also, I am interested. I had a civic hatch with all sorts of mod work.

lies! i'd kill for an AZ-1....or a Honda Beat....or a Suzuki Cappuccino....or....actually, any really interesting kei car(Daihatsu Mira TR-XX, that kind of thing)Kionon wrote:Kei cars suck.
well then i guess i'll fill this out a bit, listing off what's been done as it comes to mind.Kionon wrote:Also, I am interested. I had a civic hatch with all sorts of mod work.
car is still running the stock 4G15 1.5L 4cyl engine w/5-speed transmission
replaced the ECU, Injectors, Throttlebody and MAF sensor with the parts from the 4G37 1.8L 1993 Plymouth Laser.
Injectors were 210cc up from the stock 185cc.
Throttlebody is 50mm, up from stock 45mm
ECU and MAF sensor were installed so that the car knew what to do with the extra air and fuel.
Mitsubishi's are like Lego really...if you find something from another Mitsu(or Hyundai in some cases, since both companies shared technology), more than likely it'll fit on your car(sometimes bolt-on, sometimes needs a little coaxing :p)
so that Lego comment sets up the next part, the brakes, and some suspension goodies.
stole the front rotors from a 1994 Hyundai Elantra(10mm larger diameter), the front Calipers and pads from a 90-94 Eagle Talon(larger pad surface = better stopping power), and stole the entire rear disc brake setup from an 89 Dodge Colt Turbo.
Front sway bar is off a 94 Elantra as well(21mm up from stock 18mm), and, once i get around to it, so will the front control arms(elantra arms have bolt-on ball joints instead of the pressed-in ones on the stock arms, and as an added bonus, i get a bunch of negative camber out of the deal).
struts and shocks are KYB GR-2s, with Whiteline Sport Springs. H&R makes a set of springs for these cars as well, but the Whitelines are some of the best Colt/Summit/Mirage(hereby referred to as CSM) springs you can get. the holy grail would be the fully adjustable Tein SuperStreet setup you can get out of japan, but that's a lot of money :S
rear upper strut bar is from a 2nd Gen Eagle Talon, straight bolt-in.
rear sway bar is a hollow custom dealy i had made at a shop local to me, wanted 25mm, got 27mm because of a misunderstanding(i said 25mm outside diameter, he thought i meant inside diameter). no complaints though, it quelled a lot of the body roll that was leftover after the rest of the suspension upgrades.
compare this pic(with all stock suspension) with the ones in my previous post, and you'll see what i mean :S

the interior has very little work done to it, other than the front seats, steering wheel and gauge cluster. Seats were torn out of a Dodge 2000GTX(Mitsubishi Galant) i had sitting in my yard, and with a few bolts and some creative grinding, fit like a glove. Steering wheel is a MOMO Tuner wheel. it's a good deal smaller than the stock wheel, and feels great while driving. Gauge cluster was just taken out of a higher trim level car, since i was getting tired of not having a tach(mine's base model, didn't come with a tach).
rims are 15x5.5" from a 94 Honda Accord, which didn't fit properly other than the bolt pattern. had the centrebore honed out by a local shop so that they'd fit, and wrapped them in a set of 205/50/15 Goodyear Eagle F1s. later on, i sanded the down to bare metal, cleaned all the corrosion off the surface, primed them, and painted them white.
at some point along the line, i'd decided i wanted to do a black/white color scheme(hence the white rims), so to get closer to that, i replaced the stock taillights(which were red and with amber turn signals) with a set from a 92 Mirage(which are red with white turn signals, as you can see in the pic in my other post). also put a white pinstripe in the body trim, to make it stand out a little more.
that's all i've done so far really. tried some body work on the roof(bondo/paint), and it...sort of worked. it's bubbling up again though, so i'll have to do something about that this year.
i still have more plans for the car this year as well.
going to yank the 1.5L SOHC engine and put the 1.6L/2.0L(4G61/4G63) DOHC non-turbo motor into it instead. bonus is that it'll just need an adapter plug, 2 motor mounts, and the engine harness(just plugs right into the chassis harness, no mods needed). transmission bolts right up, and handles the extra power from the larger engines nicely.
more upgrades to the brakes as well, with Galant VR-4 front spindles, dual piston calipers, and rotors. also going to redrill the front and rear rotors to accept the 4x100 hubs from the later 4th gen CSMs.
have to replace the 15" alloys i have on the car now. as nice as they look, they're only 5.5" wide, which limits my choices for tires, and leaves me with a small wheel footprint, reducing traction. going to look at a set of 15x6.5" Konig Feathers, can't get them in white, but there's a shop locally that'll blast and paint rims on the cheap.
also need to order a Cusco front upper strut bar out of japan, and maybe grab a few other JDM goodies whlie i'm at it, like the bumpers/side skirts/spoiler from the GSR model, the lighter headlights, Recaro sport front seats, etc.
if all goes well i'd like the car to look something along these lines when done(those are the JDM GSR bumpers/sideskirts on that car).

and that's my ride, with a little more detail.
EDIT: forgot my favourite exterior mod :P

Re: Yo ride
cool, i recently got a fit, but i was looking at the yarises. they are a bit smaller and lighter than the fit, which isn't good for new england winters, but i like the yaris's exterior more. safety tests on the yaris are scary though, srsly don't get in a head on crash.
here's my fit
