1. Who named you? Why did they pick that name? Does it mean anything special? Do you like your name? (If not, what would you want to be?)

My real name is Scott. My mother named me after a song, "Watching Scotty Grow" by Bobby Goldsboro. Other then that, nothing special about it (other then its AWESOME! amirite?). I like my name, though when I was younger, i wanted to change it to "Bill" for some odd reason o.O

Another little fact, my middle name is Andrew but for the longest time I couldn't remember. Up until a few years ago, I would have to look on my drivers license to make sure. The reason I have a hard time remembering is because my brother's middle name is Anthony and that has always thrown me off. I'm still a little iffy when I try to remember "Andrew" but i'm usually pretty confident nowadays >.> Maybe I should double check my license again >.<

2. What about nicknames? What do people call you? Do you have any interesting nicknames for anyone else?

Scotty - My family calls me "Scotty" most of the time. My siblings don't usually, my sister does more then my brother though. Some people outside of the family have called me Scotty before, I usually don't mind, i just find it odd.

Scotty Too Hotty - When I built my first computer, I fried the motherboard just as one of my friends came over so he quickly named me "Scotty Too Hotty (so is his motherboard)". He calls me this from time to time to remind me of that day.

Falco - My first real internet alias. Back in the day when Star Fox 64 was out, I played as Falco during multiplayer so when I needed a name, that was it.

Wolf - After Falco was Wolf. Wolves are my favorite animal. I used it for a lot of things but it was always usually taken.

PWolf - When Starcraft came out, Wolf was already taken as a name, so I added a P in front of it and i've been using it ever since.

(P)Waffle - Typo of Pwolf turned into Pwaffle which then became Waffle. I think most of my friends call me Waffle then any other nickname.

Jr. - My boss is named Scott as well, so the first day I started my current job, everyone has been calling me Jr. I kinda like it. When I was younger, my mother had a boyfriend name Scott so i was called "Little Scott" for a while.

Garfield - The newest nickname. One of my users got my last name wrong and called me Scott Garfield so my coworkers quickly adapted the use of it and call me that from to time.

See #2. Most of my friends will call me Scott or Waffle. Those who don't know me well will probably call me Waffle or Pwolf.

1. Mother called me Mitchell. I don't like that name, I prefer the shortened version Mitch.

2. I have people call me by the first part of my nickname all the time. They did so on their own.

3. User-name I gave myself as a spin-off from the latin "New > Neo > Nio". In combination with "Technology > Tech > Tex. Very geeky I know.
- People call me Nio all the time IRL. But I've also had [con people] call me Nio-sama. Which weirded me out to say the least. As did it weird out the friend who was with me.

Mah name's Jess. My parents called me that 'cause they thought it was original. It wasn't... I know loads of other people with the same name both in real life and in the AMV community, and I often get mistaken for them .___.

People call me Cheesie or Cheese in the AMV community 'cause it's short for my YouTube username.
In real life people call me weird. :L

I chose the username xPiikanyaa 'cause of Azumanga Daioh xD when Osaka keeps calling the mountain cat 'Pikanya' and I was liek "I'MMA TURN THAT INTO AN EPIC USERNAME 8D".
On YouTube my username is CheesecakexLove 'cause that's the best my noobish 13-year-old brain could come up with at the time... I hate it .____.

[Enigma]

1.Named after my dad, who was named after his dad, who was named after his dad. So it's a tradition by now i guess.

2. People usually call me Uly for shortened(since they forget my name..since its "weird" *shrug*) or Sopa/Soup

3. And, some people call me Soup/Sopa for some reason. Probably because that was the name on my phone.

My parents named me Ryan since their names are Ray and Rebecca and wanted to keep an R theme going (my two younger sisters are Rachelle and Robyn). Just today, I found out it means "Little King"

I used to really hate my name because my deep and uncomprehensive voice would have people mistake it for "Bryan", "Royan", "Rayan", and even "Earn" at one point. I even considered changing my name to "Bob" once.

Over time, I've come to accept it.

"Ry" is usally the most common. Several of my female coworkers call me "Ry Ry".

One day, I prefer to be called "Hokage-sama"

After seeing the movie "Face/Off" in 97 and being a huge Nic Cage fan at the time, I took "Castor Troy" as my username and have used it since. People call me "Castor" at cons all the time. Don't believe those posers using *my* name for first person shooters. I'm the real deal.

1. My name is Nikollë or Nikolla, and no, it's not a girls name T_T
It's Nicholas in Albanian. I was named after my grandfather. I'm pretty much indifferent about my name, but I get frustrated when Americans can't say it even after the 3rd try. If I could have a different name it would be my Catholic Confirmation name, Michael (after St. Michael).

2. Kola and only one person ever calls me Nicky (even though i hate it lmao).

3. I've never been called Begi in real life and I hope I never do. I got my username off of an old account I had called SuperVegeta01. Later, I was called ThaSupaVegi, Vegi, and now Begi.

Well...
1)My name's George... named after my grandfather. You know, traditions. Ok, in English, George doesn't sound quite... cool, but in Greek it's pronounced "Yorgos". Pretty strange, heh

2)Nicknames i can remeber... yes, many of my friends call me Tharros. Comes from my last name (Tharralidis) and it means Courage

3)Animated... comes from anime! I was pretty obsessed that time and i've kept it. That's all i guess!

My real name is Derek. No idea who chose that, really. Might've been something like my dad picked my name but my mom chose how to spell it...I dunno. I highly doubt that my name was chosen based on the meaning...but Derek is a spin on Theodoric, which is Germanic and means "ruler of the people"

I'm pretty neutral about my name, but then again I'm pretty neutral about most names. It was nice of my parents to give me a name that is both easy to pronounce and easy to spell (at least in theory).

A few extra funny-ish things:
-At least one person thought I was a girl based on my name. Derek can be a girl's name...but I've yet to meet one.
-More people spell my name wrong than spell it correctly. I've seen Derrick, Dereck, Derrik, Derick and maybe a few others. Kinda ironic when you consider that Derek is the most common (and shortest/simplest) spelling.

Since my name is fairly short, nobody has really called me anything other than my name.
My best friend since 5th grade calls me D man
At least one of my coworkers from when I worked at Pizza Hut has called me D rock and D money

-The Tom (betcha can't guess his real name)
-"Miserable" Misra (bad professor I've had. Speaks like Ben Stien...but slower and with a thick Indian accent)
-Doctor Professor (good professor I've had. Has both a Ph.D. and an MD)
-Burns (guy had sideburns)

Like any self-respecting weeaboo, my username comes from a grammatically incorrect mashup of words from an English-Japanese dictionary. It started when I joined the Anime Nation forums and wanted a cool name. I already had Sanjuro from some random Japanese baby names site...so I wanted to go with Sanjuro the demon hunter and somehow ended up with Sanjuro_anoyo_kariudo_oni, which was too long.

I shortened that to just Kariudo_Sanjuro (which is also what I use for AIM,) and then when I moved to my next forum, Accelerated-e (made from a group of people who got fed up with/banned by the AN mods,) I just went with Sanjuro.

When I came here, Sanjuro was already taken...so I went with Kariudo. It frequently gets shortened to Kari in IRC. Having Kari in my name is probably why more than a few people here have mistakenly thought I was a girl.

Nobody calls me by my username in real life, because nobody in real life has pronounced it correctly (car-ee-you-dough. I've heard carry-ü-dough most). Other than that, I haven't really lived in an area with a bunch of other editors, and the editors I do live near just call me by my real name.
And just to be clear, I prefer Kariudo unless I've met someone in real life.

My dad named me Brett after Bret Maverick,


a cagey, articulate card shark from his favorite show Maverick.

Brett derives from a Middle English surname meaning "a Breton", referring to an inhabitant of Brittany.

Brett is both a masculine and a feminine given name. O_o
I've only met one girl named Brett, and that encounter certainly opened my eyes as I thought it was only a boys name at the time.

I usually enjoy my name, until the cocktail party effect happens when someone says bread (-_-)

I've grown a finely tuned loathing for nicknames.

It all began in the 7th grade. Our American History teacher just so happened to be German, and she began the first day of class translating what everybody's name means, into German. It was great fun. We laughed, until she got to my name. She exclaimed with glee, "I'm going to write your name on the 'board'". Guess what the translation was? Board. Yeah. Thus begins the name hell that has plagued me ever since. Every soul in that cursed school called me board, teachers included. Even years after high school, people still call me board.

On top of that, my friends were telling funny stories one day (still 7th grade), and I pitched in saying that I was seven and had accidentally mistaken my grandpa's beer for a soda. Two of my friends somehow heard, seventy-three instead of seven, so I became lovingly called "the seventy-three year old man who drinks beer".

So, I use no nicknames for people. Nicknames can burn in the seventh circle of hell.

I somewhat stole my username from my brother who uses Blitz for most things (think blitzkrieg), and Glitzer got derived from that. Only one friend calls me Glitzer for the heck of it.

Glitzer is also a jewelry brand. Go figure.

I don't really think that my parents chose it for a certain reason besides liking the sound of 'Stephen Michael'. They did say they almost named me Sean, though. 'Stephen' has any number of royal meanings behind it - 'crown' being the most common, and the one Wikipedia attests to. It was also the name of the first Christian martyr, and which was the feast day when Good King Wenceslas looked out .

When I was a kid I didn't really like the name, and found it awkward to announce to people (I still kind of do, but I'm ambivalent on it now). A lot of my friends would call me 'Steve', and I don't mind that although I won't introduce myself that way - it's even more awkward for me to do that than to use the full version. I have noticed that people frequently misspell my name because they hear the 'v' sound and assume it's spelled Steven, leading me to sometimes have to specify 'with a P-H'. Even from parts of my own family.

In German class I was frequently called Stefan, I've encountered 'Stephan' once or twice, and a couple of times as 'Stephanie', once on an Honor Roll or Principal's List award in elementary school, and once in 7th grade because our English teacher wasn't paying attention to the attendance sheet. My guess is that the sheet only registered 'Steph', which is the usual shortening of the feminine form. The award wasn't as strange, because I don't think it was broadly announced; the incident in 7th grade was during roll call. The whole class had a good laugh over that; I even thought it was funny. It was caught immediately because there was no 'Stephanie' in the class, and due to the order in which it was called, it was clear it was me being called. I can't remember if I feigned offense or if the teacher realized it after everyone else acted confused, though.

With online stuff, I usually stick to usernames when referring to people, unless there's a community nickname going around (not always, but a lot of the time).

In real life, I generally just go with whatever people want to be called. Except for my youngest sister, almost everyone shortens her name.

I've been called 'Red' on occasion as a joke, and my maternal grandfather tends to call all of us grandkids 'Chief' with no predictable certainty. Other than that, I can't really think of any.

3. What about your username(s)? Does anyone call you by a username in "real life"?

My username came about because of an assignment we had in Computer Tech (which was a glorified typing class that you'd eventually get to use MS Office in, had I not transferred out by that point) class Freshman year. The task was to type any four-letter word. So I just brought my hands down on the keyboard without looking and it spelled 'qyot', and that just stuck. The 27 got added later because I thought it sounded better, and I think I needed a minimum of six characters to sign up for an email account.

I've had people online screw up typing my username. Most often it gets rendered 'Quote' or 'Quot'. Sometimes it gets shortened to just 'Q' - which I'll admit is fine because it's hard to screw that up, Q is one of the most uncommon letters, and it brings to mind the character from James Bond (and Star Trek, but for some reason I don't immediately link that Q with the letter). The single time I've heard someone try to say it was on AMV Radio, when Koop pronounced it as 'quote' or something similar. I actually pronounce it as 'kwee-aught' (the 'aught' part said similar to the way it is in 'thirty-aught six').

There were also a couple usernames I had before this one which I'd rather not remember. I also have alternates I use on other sites.
