Yeeeahh... that's why I just said I respect these people's tastes.

Vintersorg and Borknagar grew from different roots in the synthesis of black metal and folk music that had great currency in the Scandanavian underground in the mid- to late-1990s. Vintersorg started as technically 'folk metal' but has grown more progressive; Borknagar began as pretty explicitly 'viking metal', but has tilted more and more towards progressive black metal in recent years, in much the same development that Enslaved has gone through.

For a 'pure' viking band, you want to look for Einherjer's early work or practically anything by Mithotyn. Folk metal would be more towards Storm or Ulver's Kveldssanger album.

This is what eight years in the underground and three working radio gets you...the ability to instantly answer any question in your tightly specialized field on random internet message boards.

Thank you for the answer; you´re really like a living encyclopaedia .
I just own the newer albums of Vintersorg so I don´t know what their old albums sound like (maybe I should get one?). Btw Ulver is a very good band I just own Nattens Mandrigal but it´s also one of my fave bm albums. And another good one is Moonsorrow also Viking - Metal (If I got your explaination right). Mithtyn or Einherjer ? Never heard anything of them ... but I´ll look around

Both bands broke up...these things happen. For Mithotyn any album is good, for Einherjer get the Far Far North EP or anything issued before that; my brother is about the only guy on earth who owns and likes all of Odin Owns Ye All....and even he's not crazy about Native Norwegian Art.
