Tried that Sunday. Spent 3 hours in a constant "all servers are down" mode where it errors out and requires you to close the game and launcher and start both back up before trying again - apparently it had been doing that almost constantly for 3 days. Got in after the first 3 hours and tried to create a character. Server flaked after the intro cutscene and I had to start again. Got into the character builder, all the way to the last bits of coloring, and the server flakes again - bumping me back to the start. I start to think "why the hell is character creation happening on a remote server and not client side?" before realizing "oh, yea, SOE product." I try again to make the same character - quicker this time because i remember what i selected before... Server crashes again right before i'm done. At that point, I gave up and uninstalled. It's not worth it to deal with those kinds of headaches. Played some tower defense game I got on steam a few months back and had never opened instead.
Yeah, apparently they weren't ready for the influx of players so they were having a lot of server issues that they've fixed to some extent. I am enjoying the game a bit, but it does have a tendency to be incredibly glitchy, so if I'd actually paid for this game I'd be pretty pissed. I've never had problems to the extent you did, but it amazes me that they released this game as final, commercial product. I've had more bug-free experiences in free games still in beta, which is really sad. Still, it's kind of fun and it's nice to have something to play with friends that doesn't have to be competitive (at this point I'm not touching the PvP server with a 10 ft. pole).
