Just watch out for the older, un-remastered DVDs that they may still carry instead of the newer versions. Example: doing a search for Evangelion will only turn up the original ADV 8-disc series. No sign of the newer 7-disc Platinum version.
I'd also like to comment on the GTO disc issues. I assume that Tokyopop's replicators have issues with discs that crack/break with repeated bending/dropping stresses. I've even seen the same thing happen to GTO DVDs from a Blockbuster brick and mortar store due to them using the Scanavo "grip of death" cases that practically force you to bend the hell out of the disc to get it out of there. I had to put GTO #2 on both my Netflix and Blockbuster queues and send back to Netflix two cracked DVDs and Blockbuster one busted DVD before Netflix managed to get me a playable one.

If you are talking about Eva... then yes there is. The newer Eva releases are much crisper and easier to clean up than the hell that are the original releases.RathiSponge wrote:Ah yah I was wondering about the difference from the re released remastered ones. Willen, are the remastered dvds , in your honest opinion, a very noticeable difference from the older dvds?
In general for all re masters; if its a remastered series... it would be kinda pointless if the quality was the same. I don't own any dvds like that (i.e. the original and a re master) but I won't hold my breath that there could be instances that it would be true. Given how weird the digital world is.

Unfortunately, the site that had comparison shots between the original DVDs and the Platinum ones is gone (or at least I can't find it anymore). I'd post some screens up but I don't own the original DVDs, only the Platinums so you'd only see the re-mastered images.
At least for AMV making, the Platinum DVDs are much better looking and require less processing to get ready for editing. IVTC is simple and so are the scripts needed to prep footage. Compare to the scripts some people use to clean up the video from the original DVDs:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=50961
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=78721
With the right knowledge and some skill, you can get the older DVDs to look pretty good. Although the trained eye can spot some anomalies that show up when certain AVISynth filters are used (uneven lines, etc.). My only real complaint is the contrast on the Platinums is a bit too high (I see this is as trend on some remasters - anime and live-action - where the video is 'cooked' a bit too much).

Actually, the responses that first showed up suggested that they intentionally slow down their shipping if you're getting, ripping and returning discs at a fast pace - which is the whole point of using this service to begin with (for me at least).RathiSponge wrote:Ah ok, Thanks for the responses! So Netflix is good as long as there isn't a remastered version of what they are carrying.

Well I've only ever had the 2 at a time unlimited plan, and while on the trial I got amazing turnaround. Once I was registered though, it turned into a 3 day affair. 1st day it's sent, 2nd day is wait, 3rd day it's sent back to me and I get it.
Only twice has there been an incident of me not getting a DVD(they said they sent it, so I guess it was lost in the mail). I have my account set up to email me when they recieve and mail out my DVDs. So I know exactly when I should expect something, which makes something wrong that much more noticeable.
I've never recieved a broken or scratched DVD, and I've only once had ot get something from another plant.. (It was either Karas or Blame), and even then it wasn't delayed that much.
I get both my DVDs at the same time, and I send them back in the same package so they don't receive one before the other.
The only problem I have with them at this point (Which really isn't a problem since I don't actually watch the DVDs upon receiving any more) is they don't send series discs in order.
They used to, don't get me wrong. But somewhere down the line, "add entire series" meant "We'll ship you whatever disc we can whenever we can" instead of "We'll ship them in order starting with disc 1."
Also Netflix seems to be slow on the uptake of new DVDs. Last time I checked they still didn't have the last DVD of Genshiken, and only discs 1 and 2 of Air Gear (Great series btw, glad to have seen som AMVs of it at AWA).
I've been with Netflix for a year now, and it honestly hasn't given me enough trouble for me to switch to some other company. -shrug-
