More winching!

Image
Here I am, already at the top, making like an anchor for these guys to hook their winches onto.

Image
What most people don't know is that if a winch pulls say... 12,000 pounds, and your vehicle weighs less than that, then you're going to get dragged right on over to where the problem is.
So, generally what you do is to get your truck behind something, like a small hills, and get anothe anchor behind it just incase you get pulled forward.

This poor little wrangler got pulled about 4 1/2 feet sideways till the slack on my tree saver stopped him. That rubicon went from showroom condition to junker in about 15 minutes.

Back in camp, we went down to the truck stop and grabbed my brothers semi. He pulled it all the way into camp!

Image
Got stuck and had to have this little wrangler pull him out

After that, it was barbecue time!
We had tons of people sharing their barbecues, beer, soda, whatever you wanted basically.
I stayed for a while, aired up my tires and headed home after that.
A long, long drive.

Plus, I was worried about suspension damage so I was going about 50 the whole way. Got home and crashed.
I'm still fixing little stuff on the jeep. I got a new set of flowmaster exhaust pipes, some shackle mounts, a new CB antenna, and a few little odds and ends.

All in all, it was a total blast!
Anybody on AMV interested in joining me for the next one?
Lots of times there are empty seats in the jeeps, and everybody is really friendly.

My god that looks like it was fun. I'd totally do it if i lived anywhere close.

Simple possibly stupid question though.... Are those Automatic or Manuel transmissions?

Pretty much a mix. More automatics than manuals though.
The problem is that on the rocks you feel like you need a third foot. I have a stick, but manage just fine. As a rule, people like to say that sticks are better for bogging in the mud, and automatics are better for rocks, thanks to their low torque conversion.

My theory is that you just need to gear the vehicle corectly, then if you have a low enough ratio your vehicle will basically just walk right up almost anything at just above idle. I plan on putting a throttle trigger on my stick, so that I can juice it that way if I'm stuck in a weird spot and letting my foot off the brake results in my dropping to my doom.

Looks like a lot of fun but at the same time costly. I'd be to worried about my ride doing stuff like that. It's all fun and games till I got dents and huge paint scratches, those among many other possible problems.

If someone were to take me in their rig then I'd go in a heart beat just for the experience.

Only crazy off road stuff I've been through/seen is mud wrestling with 4x4s and 4 wheelers out here in kansas. There's a small place near here about 20ish miles away where there is a huge mud lake people race around and plow through. I should take pictures next time i go.

There's been some cases where trucks have gotten stuck in the middle and it took several trucks to pull them out. I'm talking practically submerined trucks here. You never know where those sink holes are in the mud.

Anyways those pic's were cool. 8-)
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson
