I probably might not see it though till comes out on DVD (so I can add it to my obsessive collection of Harry Potter junk) I feel as though I am betraying my magical self ...

Yuuuush I wanted to do this so bad but evil work. >_< Probably going to see it on Wednesday though
We just got back. We went to an 11:30am showing to try and minimize the crowd (it was...slightly effective). There were a few obnoxious people in the theater that kinda ruined parts for me by clapping at nearly everything (regular intervals of about 3-5 minutes, even at the most minor of things) or shouting at the screen. "He still standin'! HE STILL STANDIN'!"
The fact that all three of us walked out of the theater with a headache we didn't have before entering is fairly telling. -_-
I will say, though
Spoiler :
Snape's flashback completely made the entire movie for me. His performance was amazing and it perfectly pulled off the 180 degree change from the villainous character to the heroic one.

x2. That was my favourite part in the movie.
Spoiler :
Oh God, Snape clutching Lily's dead body actually made me teary. Though in the midnight showing there was a girl sitting in the row in front of us literally SOBBING for like the last hour of the movie thinking Harry died when he was with Dumbledore. I really wanted to tell her, "THE MAIN CHARACTER DOESN'T DIE THAT EASILY, NOW STOP CRYING SO I CAN HEAR WHAT THEY'RE SAYING!" And anyway the villain was still alive so the author would never kill off the hero until he was but I guess she was so caught up in the moment she forgot.
McGonagall is the HBIC. I loved how BA she was in this movie. She deserved so much more screen time throughout the entire series, but this definitely made up for it a bit. My favourite bit with her (not really a spoiler, but still):
Spoiler :
Neville: You're actually giving us permission to do this?
Minerva: That is correct Longbottom.
Neville: To blow it up? Boom?
Minerva: BOOM!
So great. I don't even know why.
And I'm so glad they kept Mrs. Weasley's iconic line. That was one of the two or three times where it was okay for the theater to burst into applause mid film. She's such a BAMF. The other acceptable time being when Neville
Spoiler :
killed Nagini.
Also a BAMF. This should have been called Harry Potter and the BAMF Supporting Cast.
And can I talk about Helena Bonham Carter for a minute?
Spoiler :
She had what, two lines in the film? But the moment she appeared on screen, it was literally Hermione inside her body. From the way she opened her eyes to the way she walked to the way she turned her head, it was hermione. By far the best Polyjuice Potion scene ever.
What I didn't like::
Room of requirement scene:
Spoiler :
Okay so in the novel, Crabbe casts Fiendfyre and destroys himself and Rowena Ravenclaw's lost diadem. In real life, Crabbe's actor was fulfilling his sentence for a drug charge and could not film. Instead of re-casting his character, his character's actions are done by Goyle, and in an effort to keep Malfoy having two sidekicks, Blaise Zabini takes Goyle's old spot. This would have been fine if only the had cared to mention Blaise by name. He is my favorite Slytherin (tied with Pansy Parkinson, more on her later) and he deserved more than that. The only time his name is ever mentioned in the movies is in HBP on the way to Hogwarts for like 2 seconds. Additionally, in the film the Fiendfyre curse does consume Goyle, however it does not destroy the Horcrux. For some unknown reason, production felt it necessary for Harry to destroy it with a Basilisk fang. This was a tragedy. The fact that Harry actually only ever destroys one Horcrux is such a big deal (to me anyway). It shows just how much Harry could not have done anything by himself, let alone defeat Voldy. I don't understand why that had to be changed.
Pansy Parkinson
Spoiler :
Okay, I might be biased because she's my other favorite Slytherin, but throughout the series I wish she had more significance. It wasn't until this film that she was actually referred to by name (well last name anyway), so I'm grateful for that, but I just wish she became a little more BA like a bunch of the other students did. Can't evil be BA sometimes too?
Molly vs Bellatrix
Spoiler :
Now, it's been a while since I've read the books, however I'm fairly certain Molly killed Bella with a Killing Curse. Did that really need to be changed?
Fred Weasley
Spoiler :
How dare they give Fred an offscreen death? BLASPHEMOUS. He was such an important character that he deserved to be mourned through a death scene. And I wish George's reaction was shown a little more. I mean he just lost his other half, this was a perfect opportunity for some deep, deep emotion.
19 years later
Spoiler :
Just no. This was an uberfail in my opinion. It should have ended with the Trio holding hands and then had the epilogue after the credits. The kids didn't look older, they looked frightful.
All in all prolly my favorite Potter movie. Must see for ANYONE let alone Potter fans. An action movie doesn't have to be three hours of robotic humanoid cars blowing one another up.
Also, my childhood is over.... I don't know what to feel. I literally haven't slept since I saw it at midnight on Thursday, I'm all riled up

McDirty wrote:Just FYI, this entire movie feels like an entire 3rd Act, and it does feel like they edited an entire 3 and half hour movie, and then took the last 1 hour and half and called it Part 2.
Pretty much this. I think it'll screen better as a single movie on whatever special edition nth iteration of the BluRay they put it out like that on.

yeah, I completely agree. I felt that the fact that no two horcruxes were destroyed by the same person was a significant part that shouldn't have been changed. Even the 8th horcrux (Harry) was destroyed by Voldemort.

I liked that part. Molly didn't just kill Bellatrix. She denigrated that bitch.
Harry Potter has always been one of my favorite movies, but i still haven't seen all its parts

I was shocked when I saw this part It would have been way better if they didn't change it.
I never got into the HP books. I didn't get into the HP fandom until way later, after the first film had come out. Then I happened to catch it on my uni's campus channel, playing in the background while I was working on video for class. I found myself compelled to stop working and actually watch the movie. I was really kinda blown away by how good it was, and how good the acting was. I found myself thinking I would pick up the books sometime and give them a read. However, as I was really busy with reading a lot of other stuff for school, I never did. I did keep up with the movies though, and enjoyed all of them to some extent or another, and felt like this was a well done ending to a well done series of films. It's one of those rare cases where something can be so long running and remain well done.
That being said, since I haven't read the books, I don't understand some of the nerdrage my compatriots experienced with say the 3rd or 4th film I think it was, whenever it was they changed directors or something like that. I still felt there was solid storytelling, solid acting, and solid VFX work throughout all the films. Now I'm kinda sad that they're over and done with.
Guess it's time to finally read the books. I know, I know, shame on me for not reading them sooner, shame on me for not reading them then watching the movies, my experience is now ruined. I guess I was just a little too indifferent to HP when it first hit the shelves, mainly because when people hype the hell out of things, I generally find them overrated. Not so in this case.
