Audio recording equipment - curiosity

Post by gangstaj8 » Mon Apr 03, 2006 7:56 pm

I've been looking at getting a portable, digital audio recorder for live performances, and was just curious if anyone here has any experience with them or would like to share some recommendations. I'm currently looking at the M-Audio MicroTrack, which, to me, looks like a pretty reasonable little machine. Any thoughts?

My father, who is a professional classical musician, just got one today actually - a Marantz PMD660 which uses flash memory cards. I haven't heard enough feedback from him about it yet, but I'm sure I will in due time. He apparently picked out this one out after careful consideration.

Looks like a sturdy little machine, might want to check some reviews on it to see if that's something you're looking for :)

On second thought - clarify the purpose. The one I mentioned is clearly musicians on the road - it's rather bulky if it's something you want to use for, say, recording shows from the audience and carry around with you casually.

What I'll be using it for is when I'm video taping events, such as weddings. I want to have seperate mics so I can place them were I want and not have to rely on the video cameras mic. So the one you mentioned is not at all out of the question.

And if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to hear some of the feedback after you've heard it. I won't be buying anything soon anyway, I've got other equipment to worry about first.

Wow, that thing is nice. Kinda short on the battery life, I'd feel a bit more comfortable with another hour.
