They're the band that taught us that "The owner of a lonely heart, is MUCH better than the owner of a broken heart." I've been a Yes fan since 2002. The first two Yes CDs I bought were "Fragile" and "Close To The Edge". Later that same year, I purchased LP vinyl editions of "Fragile" and "90125". The latter title was named after it's catalog number (sad, isn't it?). In 2004, I individually purchased CD copies of 90125 and Big Generator, and the latter wasn't that great. Anyway, Yes is a great band. Jon Anderson and company are full of genius. They can make good music alright! My favorite Yes tunes are:
I've Seen All Good People
Roundabout
Cans and Brahms [Extracts from Brahm's 4th Symphony in E Minor Third]
We Have Heaven
South Side Of The Sky
Long Distance Runaround
Close To The Edge (18 minute track!!!!! 18 minutes and 40 seconds!!!!!)
Owner Of A Lonely Heart
City Of Love
Rhythm Of Love
Big Generator

I'm a fan of yes to a limited extent, sure - and I listen to them with pleasure every once in a while. My only tooth against them is that they basically play the same music today as they did 30 years ago - and yet seem to hold an almost premiere right to the title of "progressive rock"
That said, they're all excellent musicians. Anderson's voice I'd recognize anywhere; though I think Howe is quite possibly an even more key figure in the band.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Hmm...I thought that was Genesis.Otohiko wrote:I'm a fan of yes to a limited extent, sure - and I listen to them with pleasure every once in a while. Yes did some good stuff, up to and including Relayer which is my fave album of theirs. Always liked the Roger Dean artwork, too.
But by comparison I prefer the music of Asia, the band Howe and Downes formed (with Wetton and Palmer) after Yes fell apart (1980, I think).

I've been a Yes fan since some point in the 90's when I listened to 90125. I always loved "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" since I saw it back when MTV meant music television.
I've divided up their music career into 4 stages. The first stage being the stuff before "The Yes Album" back to the first album in 1969. I don't really care for any of this stuff. The 2nd stage is when I considered them to be at the top of their progressive rock career. The 3rd stage being their run with Trevor Rabin taking the place of Steve Howe during the 80's and into the early 90's. Lots of catchy hard-rock stuff. The 4th stage being Howe rejoining the band to present day. It's like they're taking the same route as Rush trying to go back to their roots. Basically I think it sucks.
"Fun" Fact:
Chris Squire (bass) has the rights to the band name since he's the only one that never left.

I listen to Yes every so often because it reminds me of my childhood and of my father, it was one of his favorite bands, and so it played a pretty big part..... Personally, my favorite album is Talk (every song on it I love), which my dad hates. I used to listen to the cassette tape over and over again when I was about 8 or 9, not something you'd expect me to be listening to at that age. o_O.
Heh, I also used to be able to play Nous Sommes du Soleil on the piano, but it's been a long time...
(Also, our house password use to be Trevor Rabin. If my dad was not home, and someone did not know the password, they were not allowed in.
)
So I mostly only listen to them when I'm feeling nostalgic. Ah, the lost days of my childhood......
