Anyone hear of Nocturnal Rites?

Post by rubyeye » Wed Apr 21, 2004 9:57 pm

Continuing my quest for more possible source material for future AMVs I came across this band, Nocturnal Rites. I gave a listen to their last three albums with the new vocalist, Jonny Lindkvist, and after reading reviews and listening to them...they're kind of average. They sound somewhat unique but the songwiting and production is just not capturing me. The only song I like is Eyes of the Dead, everything else is rather flat. Nothing sticks in my head.

Some people seem to like them, but what do you think, seriously?

I've got their second disc, The Sacred Talisman, and I've heard Tales of Mystery and Imagination. Back then, they sounded like a decent but unspectacular power metal band fronted by a Swedish guy with his shorts pulled up too tight. What I've head since, mostly track by track, has had them getting heavier and marginally improving, but as you've said, not really differentiating themselves.

Their best song is probably "The Iron Force" (off ...Talisman), but I don't know how AMVable it is. Warrior-and-dragons power metal is always tough, even in the cases when it doesn't suck.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
CHOPWORK - abominations of maceration
skywide, armspread : forward, upward
Coelem - Tenebral Presence single now freely available

I've heard 'The Sacred Talisman' and 'Shadowland', and liked both of them. Nothing especially great, but I still pretty good.

I'd be glad to recommend you more power metal bands, if you'd like. :D

Appreciate it, but I think I've discovered just about every band I can proudly say I really, really like (and I've gone through a bunch of them through some great sites). There are a few with new albums coming out later this year I'm keeping an eye on, but for right now my collection is diverse enough to be happy with. Thanks anyway.

I heard a few songs, and the music was intriguing but the production really turned me off. Since then, I haven't bothered to check out any more.

I heard of them, one kid at school who caught wearing metal band t-shirts at school nagged me into listening to the band. They are ok but not enough for me to buy any of their albums. However thats my opinion

Heh, fair enough. Let me throw one band your way, though: Manticora. They have three albums out, and all three rule very much. I'd be surprised if you've already heard of them, because not many others have. They don't get nearly the credit or recognition they deserve, so I'll urge you to try some of their stuff. ;)

Manticora...you mean.....this band?
Yeah, I'm very familiar with this label and all their bands. I don't think there is anybody I've not heard of yet or know where to find info on them, unless they are virtually unheard of and new to the metal scene.

Oh awesome, you have heard of them. They have some great potential AMV material (hint hint ;)).
