How much does the song matter in a video

Music matters more than it should. Pick a good song and people will like your video. Pick a bad one and they won't. Most viewers don't seem to pay attention to whether your editing is actually any good - they react to the song and then make excuses to apply their impressions of the song, to the other aspects of the video.

unfortunately some people are like that.

i like to look for amvs to bands or songs that i like, but many of my favorite vids are to songs that i'd never heard before or songs i really hadn't cared about. one indication of a really good amv is that it turns a song you don't/wouldn't like into a song you do like.

a good amv doesn't depend on how popular the song is, it's how well you use the song.
