Castle Point Anime Convention AMV Viewing

Post by Gordon Frohman » Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:11 pm

Hello there, AMV Head here for Castle Point Anime Convention. For those who don't know, CPAC is a local run con in Hoboken for the New York/New Jersey area which will take the weekend of March 29 at Stevens Institute of Technology. The attendance usually runs around 600 people, so its on a much more personal and friendly level than most other cons. We will be having some awesome events going on including cosplay chess and a concert with MC Frontalot and some 8-bit bands. Here is a link for those interested in attending: http://www.stevens.edu/anime/cpac/

As most cons do, we'll be having a viewing for AMVs. Because this is a local run con (funded by the school no less), we cannot provide prizes but we will be setting up a viewing. So if you want your AMVs to be enjoyed by some friendly New Jersey/New Yorkers (or are attending yourself), then send us some of your videos. Its as simple as attaching it to an email and sending it to amv@castlepointanime.com. If you have multiple files which are too large to attach, just post them to http://www.sendspace.com/ and email me the link! Just remember to include all necessary information along with it.

PS. Sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum. It seemed most appropriate even for just a viewing.

Here are the rules:

Please send all entries to amv@castlepointanime.com, or you can mail a CD/DVD to

Stevens Anime Club
Stevens Institute of Technology
1 Castle Point on Hudson
Hoboken, NJ 07030

At this time, we are accepting multiple entries per person. However, please rank your own videos from which you want us to air the most to which you want us to air the least. This precaution is in effect in case we get so many entries we can only take one or two per person.

With your submission, please include the following:

* Contact information (your name, e-mail, phone number, and address)
* AMV information (AMV Title, song and artist, anime used, and category)

Please keep AMV content PG-13 tops! Please click here to see the MPAA's definition of PG-13.

The following formats are accepted:

* MPEG2 (SVCD)
* MPEG2 (DVD)
* MPEG1 (VCD)
* MPEG4 (ASP/DivX/XviD)
* MPEG4 (AVC/H.264)
* FLV1 (Sorenson Squeeze)
* FLV4 (AVD/H.264)

Please be aware that WMV is advised against, but is still accepted

Note that we will be playing these videos on a large projector screen, so if you have a version of your video edited for a projector, please send that one.

Please email amvs@castlepointanime.com first if you need to send it as an MKV or an OGM.

The following formats are NOT accepted:

* MOV
* RM/RMV
* FLAC (for audio)

AMV Categories:

* Action
* Comedy
* Drama
* Romance/Emo
* HD (pending)
* Ecchi (no nudity)
* Memes (Caramelldansen, etc.)

Thanks again everyone, and I hope to see some of your submissions rolling in soon!

So, does that mean you want use to author a playable VCD/SVCD/DVD, or just that you want us to encode the file to be compatible with the VCD/SVCD/DVD specs and send it on a normal data disk?

Sorry for the delayed response. I am going to be authoring a DVD to be played via projector at the convention. You can send in a normal disk if you want, but email is a much more convenient form for me.

Basically I'm just asking you guys permission to use your AMVs at the con. I don't think it would honest of me just to rip AMVs off the site without direct permission from you guys. So I figured those interested would send them to me and that would be that.

If you're not holding an actual contest and are just showing things, i'm hesitant to believe anyone would give a shit if you asked or not. If you're asking for submissions, people normally prefer to submit a version of their video more suited to projector playback over one that's optimized for "small screen" computer monitor viewing (i.e. the ones they upload here).

While you are right that people won't care about me asking if its just a showing, I'm advertising the opportunity to submit if people are possibly planning on coming/specifically want their AMVs to be shown. I'm doing this first to get the people who truly want their AMVs submitted before I go and just get any old AMV off the site for some sort of filler.

Once the deadline approaches, if I feel like I don't have enough AMVs to fill my time slot, then I will begin to look around and PM people specifically.

Thank you for pointing out the fact about the projector playback. I will keep that in mind from here on out (and I'll tell the site manager to update the info page for me).
