Rules / guidelines for A-kon 2008 AMV contest?

Post by harryjramv » Sun Mar 30, 2008 7:14 pm

I finally created an AMV, and now I'd like to enter it into the A-kon AMV contest. However, all I know is that the due date is May 1. I have no idea of any other rules or guidelines, such as what resolution the video needs, what kind of credit I need to give for the anime and song, etc.

ANY help is appreciated. I'm guessing old contest guidelines would be outdated, but it's better than nothing. The current website at vse.a-kon.com is still "under construction", and I'd rather find out this information as soon as possible.

On a personal note, I'm frustrated. I can't find this bloody information anywhere. Either I'm not looking in the right places, or it aint there. I would have at least posted the guidelines for submitting videos even if the website wasn't ready to accept them yet. Let us get our stuff ready for you!

Whoa there Jeff-kun. I understand your frustration so let me quickly address them for you and everyone else.

For the most part, I act as the "liason" between A-Kon and you guys here on the forums and do the best I can to keep you up to date with information regarding the Video Events. I know many have been scratching their heads as to why the website has not been updated yet (including myself). The reason has been posted on the Video Events Page, so let me just reiterate here:
So what's taking so long?

Ah the great question. Well the short answer is the last of the site code changes were located on my old PC which decided to bite the dust a couple of weeks ago. After $1000 of spending and a bunch of time, I still can't get it back up to finish what I started in time for this year.

So what I'm going to do is open up this site for us to use again this year. I will make sure it's up in a couple of days so you guys can submit your vids. Sorry for the wait.
Unfortunately, chalk it up to "technical difficulties" being the culprit. Once the site finally gets up and running I indent to make a formal announcement to let everyone know that they can start submitting, and help spread the word.

Because the May 1 deadline is so close, I have recommended that we extend the deadline to accommodate for the website coming online so late. Until I get verification for the change, please treat the May 1st deadline as .... the deadline!

As for qualifications and rules, we probably should have kept the old ones online as a reference. As far as I can say, the only change I remember learning about is that EXPERT entries will not need verification of prior winnings or (if you're a "professional editor") a demo reel of your work. Everything else would still be the same as last year. But if you have any specific questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can.

I appreciate everyone's patience but I hope we can receive many great videos from you guys this year.

This is my first year submitting an entry. What were the qualifications/rules from last year?

I have one suggestion that I think would help new "contestants" who haven't been in previous A-kon music video competitions. If someone could post all of the pertinent rules and guidelines from last year, that would probably help quite a bit. Even if many of them change for this year, some information is better than no information.

Most big cons have almost identical guidelines for submissions aside form the random number of seconds of black before and after the video. A non specific "rough" guideline for one big con (A-kon in this case) is the same as looking at the guidelines for ACen, AMA, AB, Otakon, etc.
