I wonder if they would have even shown his video? (I know they cut the contest short due to time constraints.) I mean, they made that whole disclaimer speech about "this event and the content it shows is not for everyone so leave now if you get offended easily." I didn't see anything that would have offended anyone, but maybe I'm numb to violence, did they show anything graphic? I don't remember.

Also, meHarmony FTW, totally awesome.

They didn't show anything extremely graphic... I think they were just playing it safe.

Though I can't believe my AMV won Best Drama or Romance.... Never would have thought that could happen.

Oh and The Best of Show winner was the absolute best. Shemale Armstrong was total win!!!

so how is Jacon's AMV contest these days. I've only been there once (Jacon '04) and it was the first AMV contest I ever went to and it's still the best AMV contest I've been to so far.

Not really. I knew they weren't gonna show mine. I was kinda pissed they didn't show my buddies Gintama video to Dane Cook though even after he edited out all the F-bombs.

And you probably already know I'm not happy about the best comedy winner... for all the same reasons I put up about MegaCon. I just don't see what's so damn special about Azumanga Diaoh that makes it win best Comedy... and u know what. I'm gonna use it for my next one now. I hate the damn anime so much because of this crap, so I've decided to bastardize it to hell and back. Expect it at AFO.

Honestly I think the best of show should have taken Best comedy as well if they didn't have anything else funny enough that got passed the filtering process. It pisses me off that best comedy can't make people laugh.

As for Best Action... Melee congrats on that man. that was some freakin awesome shit there. Soon as I saw "This was supposed to be 8 minutes long" I was "OMFGBBQSAUCE". I creamed my jeans over that crap man. It was the whole delivery. The thread about wanting to make it 8 mintues long, and then figuring out how to cut it down, and then watching how u explained it in the AMV was pretty damn cool. What anime was that by the way?

Best Drama or Romance was pretty good too. I don't know what it is about dramatic scenes with their source audio with music over it, but it just makes people wanna cry.

So yeah... I thought all the winners were deserving except for Best Comedy, and thats not because I think I should have won (cuz there was no way in hell they would even think of showing mine with kids in the room), but because it wasn't that funny.

So who ever won Best of Show, feel honored cuz in my eyes I feel you should have won two awards that night, and if I was a judge it would have been that way.

@superboi: I did get a chance to see the Dane Cook video you're talking about. For a comedy AMV it's hard to go wrong with a comedian (and a popular one at that) as your audio source, but it was still well done. I'm surprised they didn't show it. The anime I used was Eureka Seven. I'd highly recommend it. I'm glad you thought the intro was funny, I doubted the crowd would, but they seemed to get a rise out of it.

@Unlimited Rice: I haven't been to very many different conventions' AMV contests but JACON holds some good ones. This year was no exception. Best of show was freakin awsm. Solid videos throughout. Well, once we got past that subtitled episode of naruto put to different music that they mistook for an AMV.

Also, to my fellow editors: I'm sorry if you made one of those "beat your face in with nonstop action" AMVs, I didn't mean to infringe upon your category, let alone steal the award for it. The people sitting next to me (even though they knew it was my amv cuz I was freakin out) were saying out loud "theres hardly any action in this video" but oh well, the judges thought it was good. If I had to call it, it'd be the gunshot sync at 02:44 ftw. =D

Seriously... I saw it in a few good AMV's at AWA and some other ones hear and there last year, and I already knew it was some incoherent crap about annoying girls, and their annoying fan base of fan girls. Soon as I got a tiny bit interested after going to AWA and seeing some really funny stuff with it I decided to watch it and noticed I already knew everything about the anime w/ out watching it.

Melee even beat that thing out for best Comedy, so yes it pisses me off to see something that wins Best Action contain more comedy than Best Comedy. Its called bad judgment, and it pisses me off cuz theres nothing I can do about it.

I would assume that this best comedy video actually is a comedy video whereas Melee's video is primarily a action(drama?) video. So there's no chance of his video actually beating out this comedy video for the Best Comedy Award

and well knowing that it was Annamaybelle, I'm sure her video was awesome. I'm not sure but I think some Florida cons have a habit of not giving one video more than one award even if (some of them) state that one video can win multiple awards.

This next paragraph unrelated to Jacon's contest, I think you still have somewhat a wrong idea how AMV contests work, or how an award system for AMVs work appropriately. Best Comedy Video award goes to the best video entered under that(the Comedy) category. Best Comedy Video and Funniest video do not go hand in hand all the time(besides, the Funniest video could also be the worst video of the contest, that could be a possibility) And by your logic, it's like saying Borat should get the Best Comedy movie award just because it's just filled with comedy.

I hope that kind of helps you understand. Judging for a category goes way beyond how well the content fits that category. Winning videos should be top-notch(or anything like that) quality work.
