Ten Days to AWA 12 Expo and SAST contest deadlines!

Post by MCWagner » Wed Aug 09, 2006 7:07 pm

Yeah, that kinda snuck up on everyone, didn't it?

Ladies and gents, the deadline for submission to AWA AMV contests is rapidly approaching! The two remaining contests are Expo and SAST.

The Expo contest is for general submissions. This contest is open to all subjects, and all manner of video. You can send us as many submissions as you like, up to a total of two hours in length with any audio/video mix you might like (though adult-themed material will be screened during late night programming). The only restriction is that entries may not have previously competed at AWA. Submissions that were entered at other contests/conventions are fine.

We usually get a fairly sizeable turnout for Expo every year, so we don't always have time to screen every video recieved. However, we do assure you that at least one video from each competitor will get its time up on the big screen. Judging is done in marathon sessions with my staff and friends.

New this year is the "Short Attention Span Theater" contest. Designed to mimic the "AMV Hell" projects, this contest is for entries 30 seconds or shorter (exception for slightly longer videos may be made if requested at gte106k@mail.gatech.edu). These will then be assigned numbers, assembled into one long project, and screened during the "awards ceremony" at AWA. The "best" video segment will be determined by audience ballot.

This contest is designed as a venue for commercials, previews, trailers, and especially all those half-formed joke, really weird, or experimental video ideas you've had, but realized couldn't be sustained for an entire 3-minute video. (Everybody's got a closet full of those.) Besides, a 30-second video is a good format to show off a brilliant idea without committing to months worth of After Effects. Step up and give it a shot! No restriction on number of entries (unless we're totally buried).

Detailed rules for both contests, as well as submission instructions available at www.awa-con.com under "events".

I can't find any info on mp4/h264 for the expo then I guess I'll have to make a regular xvid for submission purposes ?

Why not just do a huffy or mpeg2 encode? Both would look significantly better than xvid and you know they can handle those.

If you can't find any info on it, then it's probably best not to submit in that format. I had our tech guy go over and update the rules, so he would have included it if he didn't anticipate any problems with conversion.

Use the lossless verion you output from yon editing proggy.
Myself, I just made Xvid versions of my SAS vids to save space.
Or the fail safe, author a video DVD and make them rip it.

Shouldn't be too long, there's just a lot of burning to get through. (Can't give you a day right now...)

I did ask in the Pro list, and got no answer. :P

I figured it would be a few days, I'm just being impatient. Just had a fear that they were already sent out or something.

Hmmm, guess I better go ahead and send in my SAST videos. I was about 1/3 done with my Expo video... but screw that for this year.
