Alright, we're about 2 months out from Ushi, and, while this is probably a bit late, I am announcing the TWO Ushicon AMV contests:
1) The Hentai Music Video Contest. You can guess at the subject matter here. The winner will recieve a trophy and a "mystery gift" from the Video Head. I swear it will be appropriate and in bad taste. Videos must contain hentai. Past that, I don't care about bad language, foul taste, or anything else. MexicanJunior won last year, and that should tell you the general tenor of the thing. And, after Ushicon's Inagural Hentaifest Singalong, we feel confident that our attendees will appreciate your work. The only rule is NO YAOI. Take that crap to A-Kon.
2) The Anime Music Video Contest. This will be a fan judged event, same as last year. We've secured Main Programming for our AMV contest and a prime time Saturday block of time, so you can rest assured your video will be seen by a large portion of the con. We'll have an encore presentation along with the awards ceremony prime time on Sunday.
Rules:
1) No DBZ/Linkin Park videos. Last year we were lucky and only got 1 DBZ/Creed video. Those of you who attended the con will note that, while I showed it, I also publicly mocked the creator. I reserve the right to do the same for any videos that don't meet the exalted standard of "not black hole suck."
2) If It Won't Fly On Free Cable, It Won't Fly At Ushi. I'm not going to tell you to use radio edits, or even that you can't have a curse word or two in a song. That being said, if you give me an Azumanga Daioh video set to 2 Live Crew, you're unlikely to make it into the contest. I'll probably show it in the HMV contest, but we do have kids who attend this sort of thing.
3) Local/Texas creators get priority in the event we get more than time allows. We're not aiming to be the biggest con in the world; rather, we're content to be the central Texas anime con. As such, we do give priority to local creators. Similarly, if you plan on attending, your video will get priority. Given that we're pre-reg only this year, you might look into registering now if you were teetering on the brink.
4) Check our guest list (http://www.ushicon.com/guests.shtml). Videos using our guests' titles are likely to get priority over those that don't. We'll submit copies of any vids involving our guests' creations to the guests. If you've encapsulated all that is Princess Tutu in an amazing video, submit it. Itoh-san may fall in love with you, and you'll have many creepy duck children.
4) The FTP Will Not Take Your MPEG2 Non-Compressed Video. It has 750 megs of space total. I check it nightly and pull off the vids, but if you have something very large, get a hold of me and we'll arrange an alternate method of transfer.
5) Yes, I Know The Ushi AMV Webpage Is Incorrect. I'm telling you the truth here. You're welcome to email video@ushicon.com and ask me if this is the truth, and I'll email you back in the affirmative.
6) Your Video Will Include A Splash/Info Page Or Text File. That way we can properly credit you in the ballots and to the convention. If you don't submit one, I'll still show your video, but it'll be anonymous, and what's the point then?
Submission:
The easiest way is FTP upload.
ftp.driftpeasant.org
Login: amv@driftpeasant.org
PW: AMV
You'll see a list of subdirectories - choose AMV and upload. You don't have permissions to the rest. Upon uploading, shoot me an email to tell me you uploaded. It's entirely possible that some unscrupulous soul will delete your video in order to u/l his before I can empty the server again. If this occurs, I want to know that I'm missing a video.
You're also welcome to get a hold of me on AIM as Driftpeasant and work out an alternate means of submission.
The con is January 27th, so all submissions must be in by January 15th.
Thanks for your support, and see you at Ushicon!
