List of International AMV Contests?

I know TaranT does a wonderful job of keeping track of most contests here in the US, but I'm seeing quite a few International contests making announcements this year. Anybody care to help me list a few of the up-coming ones & their AMV Contest entry deadlines, just to make note of them?

Manifest (deadline: July 22) - Australia

Fantasy Movies AMV Contest (deadline: August 5) - France

Animethon (deadline: June 17) & Anime Evolution (deadline: July 1) - Canada

Connichi AMV Contest (deadline: July 20) - Germany

I believe these are the most recent ones I've seen (and I'm pretty sure those dates are accurate). Please feel free to add or confirm these contests.

Songbird21 had a clickable map of contests up before including Canada and Europe. It would be great to revive that idea sometime

Anyway, you already listed the most important ones. Anime 2005 was 2 weeks ago in the Netherlands, and I think Poland had 2 or 3 contests (the biggest one of them being Reanimation 4).

Then there is:
Aninite September 2-4 in Vienna / Austria.

Tokonatsu July 22-24 in Woburn / UK

I don't find any deadline information for those 2

Minamicon 12 (deadline: February 1, 2006), March 17-19 in Southampton / UK

I also heard of a convention with contest in St. Petersburg / Russia

Generally, the number of cons and AMV-Contests really degraded here compared to last year

Big ones get bigger and smaller ones faint.

I don't mind including off-continent contests (I'm already tracking the Canadian cons). But I've had trouble in the past getting reliable information for the European conventions.

I'm going to go ahead and add MANIFEST and Connichi. Aninite and Tokonatsu have no deadlines - which implies that they're taking entries at the door; i.e. you need to attend. Minamicon is too far off to worry about now.

I like the rule for Aninite: "No blasphemy." First time I've ever seen that one. But it does serve to remind North American creators that there are cultural differences to consider when sending AMVs overseas.

Yeah, the Aninite contest is really weird from what I've heard, so not much to bother about.

I don't really know why Tokonatsu has no deadline information, last year's Wildercon (which was the predecessor) had those.

But yeah, very many contests here are strict on exclusivity because they fear some people who send their AMVs to a large number of contests without really bothering for a single one (which is bullshit, AMVs of people who do that are usually bad enough to not make it to the finalists). And they possibly want to look for the best domestic creator.

It's possible that the people in charge don't know about or don't want to go through the upfront preparation. If it's a small con, it might be easier to just collect tapes and discs at the door, review them, and play them one by one. The first contest I ever entered was like that. It turned out well enough.

Of course, this is not feasible for a larger con that might get 50 to 100+ entries. Pre-con preparation becomes mandatory.

Eh... yeah, Manifest I've opened up as early as possible, and announced, I believe, early enough so that even international entries can make it in time...

If you are looking for other Australian conventions, with AMV comps, here's a few more:

AVCon

Animania

Wai-con - dates not yet announced for the convention itself usually happens in December.

AnimeAU - already over this year and which I won the competition!!!!!

And yeah, my convention Manifest has already been mentioned above, and we definitely aren't a bunch to afraid of seeing what else the world out there can dish at us

I've had people tell me and me realise myself that there's a big possibility that if the Manifest AMV comp get bigger and bigger, we would have more of the local people left behind in it all... but I also believe that by immersing in a more international stage, the local AMV creators should actually be more inspired to do better stuff...
