If you are a AMV creator and are making plans for going to <a href="http://www.connecticon.org/">Connecticon 2005</a> in Hartford, CT's New Convention Center, here is an EVENT for you!

AMV CONTEST Submissions NEEDED

Rules and Guidelines

Last year, due to the small number of entries we received, we were not able to host an AMV contest. But this year, you can make a difference. Only categories that have three or more entries will be judged and prizes awarded to the winners!
4 categories, at least 3 entries per, that's only 12 people! If your entering, bug more people to enter! Send in those AMVs!!

Rules:
1. Entries must be received by July 1st, 2005.
2. You must already be registered for the convention to enter this contest. If you are registering by mail, you may mail everything together.
3. You must submit your own work. (if you wanted to enter someone, bug them to enter and come to Connecticon!)
4. Each person may submit up to two (2) AMVs.
5. Entries must be a minimum of 1 minute and no longer than 6 minutes.
6. Entries must be suitable for under-18. This includes both the audio and video footage. If it couldn't be seen on basic cable, don't bother sending it in- unless you just want to give us a thrill!

7. You may not use subtitled footage. Make sure you have a dub or original Japanese with no English text. You may add your own subtitles for effect, if you would like.

Best Comedy

Best Action

Best Drama

Best Editing

Prizes:
Winners of each category will receive two free admissions to ConnectiCon 2006, and Certificate of Achievement indicating their prowess at creating fantastic AMVs. Other prizes to be decided.

Anonymous entries will not be submitted into the contest.

Please do not send us your master copy, as entries will not be returned.

The AMV must contain information on the anime(s) used, artist name, and song title, and if applicable, video name at the beginning. Including this information at the end is optional.

Format:
The following formats will be accepted:
PAL
VHS
DVD-R
DVD+R
DVD
All video must be NTSC.
VHS tapes need to be recorded in SP mode on a new, blank tape for quality reasons. Make sure your video is not cut off in any way. You may want to record around 15 seconds at the beginning and end of the video to ensure this doesn't happen.

I don't make the rules I just inform the community of this event.

If you have a problem with this rule ask the Staff in charge of contest rules "why do you have this rule?", instead of posting it here?

Because most of the time the person in charge of the AMV contest actually takes the time to post to the forum instead of sending a messenger?

Seriously, though - contest heads posting to the 'Org results in a good relationship established with the editors, which results in (dingdingding!) more submissions!

Although I am not the "contest head" I am on Staff and offered to take on this task since I was already a member of the forums. The rules were already outlined and I was told to use that posting.
But again, even if I was just a AMV nut and had no offical business with the connvention I probably would have passed on this info if it hadn't been done yet anyways.

Neato,

I just happened to be checking the ConnectiCon website and proofing everything, looking for pages that need content updates and found that the rules for the AMV contest were good with the exception of Rule #2. I propose that we change it to what is listed below. I would say that someone who wins an award will still have their award mailed to them but and prizes (DVD's, plushies, posters, trophies, etc) would not be mailed to the winner(s).

Rules:

I'm also thinking that maybe we could open up the contest to just being Music Videos from say everything and have seperate categories for things like sci-fi, fantasy, console games, PC games, anime. In that manner folks would be able to submit music videos from WoW, or about their favourite sci-fi show like Firefly or Buffy or something! We'd also keep the themes for the music videos as well... again what do you folks think?

On other thing can be said about prized. You have to be present to claim the prizes or have a PROXY (which case they can have a signed form that they fill out and sign)

One of the reasons there are no too many live action MV contests is that some of the North Americal Companies seem to be much more active in copyright violations... Anime companies have turned a blind eye to contest on the other hand... Ne carefull how you advertise it would be my suggestions
