thanks for the cool heads up.

man, jacon is in april this year? I won't be in florida anyway, but since AE and FITCON don't usually move their dates around much, that means 4 Florida cons within a span of 7 weeks. that's just insane.

and Bakuretsucon...whatever happened to them last year? I never could find anyone who knew about the results of their amv contest. lol.

I'm still new to the whole AMV thing and I was wondering. How do you get into the conventions. Do you just go and watch vids somewhere, do you submit vids and hope to win, or any other stuff. I think I would like to go to one of these conventions sometime. Are any of them in Arizona?

I was kinda hoping that maybe they'd push ACen ahead one weekend so that certain people who will still have college classes around then could go :\ But, ah well.

Thanks for the list :) Puts things in perspective. Only 3 I'm currently planning on going to are Ohayocon (staffing this year to help out a friend), Anime Central, and AWA. I may try and fit Otakon in there, but who knows.

I'm not sure about any Arizona cons but entering contests is fairly easy. All you do is send in a copy of your video with a submission form to whoever is holding the contest. You don't have to go to the con they will contact you if you win.

Be careful: some cons do require attendance or at least registration (e.g. JACON).

Songbird21 has a nice map for locating conventions that have AMV contests: http://planetmyhill.com/Quicksilver/ConMap/ConMap.html

Or you can use my short list at http://www.amv-contest-lists.org/.

I'm sorry to say, but ACen has almost always been mid-May (~15-17th-ish) and it's sort of a tradition. I know they don't take everyone into account, but I know that my alma mater (University of Illinois) usually has finals the week before (or that week) and thus most of those kiddos are just getting off school and thus it works nicely for them. *shrug*

...and your ass BETTER be at ACen McFly :)

I am glad to see JACON is a month earlier and isn't close to ACen since I couldn't go to both b/c of work. Can't miss two weeks in a row :P.

Well ACEN'S Deadline will be no later than 1 month before the convention. I'll be able to get an exact date once I get a message from con chairs about my return to staff.
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

I will be there, but, I was talking about Lolo. I think she has classes like right up to that weekend, which could possibly include that Friday.
