To all of the finalists listed above, you will receive an email confirming your entry information. Please check to make sure the information we have is accurate.

In addition, we are announcing that along with the original categories that were published, we have added a brand new category to the contest! We call it "Rhythm / Vibes," featuring entries with a related aesthetic that emerged during the judging phase. These entries meshed so well together in both style and composition that we just had to give them their own category. We hope you enjoy this new category as much as we do.

The AMV Contest will take place this Thursday, January 6. If you would like to attend, please be sure to arrive when the doors open at 8pm PST. The contest will begin at 8:30pm PST.

Winners for the AMV Contest will be announced and showcased on Saturday, January 8 during the Masquerade halftime show, approximately around 9pm PST. We will also showcase the winners once again on Sunday, January 9 at 4:30 pm in Main Events.

Winners will be announced in real time on Twitter using the hashtag: #AnimeLA17.

Even if your name is not listed above, your AMV entry may still be played! We will highlight some of the best of the non-finalists and honorable mentions during our pre-show block on the main stage, and we will showcase many more during our AMV Programming all weekend long in the video room.

Once again, thank you so much for being a part of this event. I hope to continue to see more works by you for years to come.

Take care!

That was a recent change I made last night. There is a delay after you register where I have to manually review each registrant before sending out their confirmation with instructions on how to submit AMVs, which can sometimes take a while if I'm sleeping or working. This is a new two-step system we're using this year, so I'll need to figure out some way to automate it next time.

For now, I've included a link at the end of the registration where you can immediately begin submitting entries! You should receive your confirmations shortly after that once each registration and entry has been reviewed.

I'm going to catch up on everyone's entry that has submitted so far by tonight. There's already so many, thanks everyone!!! 🙏

Also, the entry form had a typo that listed 'Comedy / Horror' instead of 'Comedy / Humor.' I apologize if that confused anyone!! 🙇‍♀️

(although that could make for a rather interesting experimental category one day…)

Why did you split up the process? Were you having problems when everything was on just 1 form?

(A bit of inside baseball, for those interested…)

In order to be able to ship awards to winners and such (can't wait to show more on that soon!), I need to provide mailing addresses to the powers that be by end of convention on Sunday, January 9, 2022. There's a grace period to confirm addresses of course, but I need to submit something in hand by end of con. This means we need to collect mailing address info ahead of time, which is something we haven't done before.

On the old form, I believe all we asked were your name, editor handle, and email address for each entry. If we recycled that system again, we'd also have to ask for your mailing address and other contact info, which I felt could get repetitive and annoying.

Instead, we split it into two forms: one for registration info, and one for entry info. Since Google Forms doesn't provide a good way to create a persistent state per registrant, splitting it into two forms was the best option for us. It reduces the amount of redundant information we have to process on the backend, and it saves you from having to type out that same information over and over; a win-win, in theory at least.

Google Forms is not the most ideal way to do this of course, but it's what we have for the moment. We're always exploring other alternatives to help streamline this process much better. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to PM me or send an email to amv@animelosangeles.org with your ideas. We'd love to hear them!

I feel it's always best to be as open as possible if it helps folks understand where you're coming from 😅

There's still roughly 36 hours to get those entries in! Feel free to nudge a friend who might be interested ^^
