Seeing that awesome emoji just warped me back to 2009. Sure feels good to have contests again.

Feeling the same. 2009 was also the year I first entered a video into a major contest, and it was Otakon. It was and is one of the best videos I've ever made and it came in third. I would have been okay with that if 1st place hadn't been some baby editor's first AMV . I was bitter about that for years, and entered very few contests after that. Now I know better. Getting robbed is all part of the experience after all. Now I'm back at Otakon (figuratively), and with a video that I can finally be as proud of as that one I made over a decade ago. People will see it, and that's enough.

This reminds me of Otakon 2004, when a video I'd spent three months on doing frame-by-frame masking ended up coming in 2nd in the Comedy/Parody category... to the original AMV freaking Hell.

And neither of those videos was the finale! I consoled myself with the thought that at least I didn't see people walking out in the middle of my video, like they did with the one that was. The coordinator that year had never run Otakon's contest before and I guess didn't have a good feel for the seeding process. But to the unlucky creator's credit, he really stepped up his game after that fiasco... perhaps you've heard of "Real Ninjas" or "Lifestyles of the Animated and Fabulous"? Those were his.

That's not even counting the ones that got disqualified. I'm curious about those stats as well, though I doubt anyone can provide more than a very rough estimate. Either way, that's a lot of videos and you guys are amazing for sorting through them all. Thank you.

It's not uncommon for people to ditch during the last video. It's like leaving a minute before the game is over. They're trying to beat the rush out the door and get to their next thing. I try to always put one of our strongest videos last so it's their loss if they miss it!

As per the number of entrants, nobody got DQ'd. Everyone cleaned up their act in time. There WERE several people who submitted 2 videos by accident, but as soon as I saw 2 forms come in from 1 person, I made them choose which video they were really entering, then immediately deleted the form and the video so there wasn't any confusion. I couldn't tell you how many people that was (2 or 3?) because I literally spent 0 time working with the scrapped entry. Hmmm, Scrapped Entry sounds like a gritty 18+ reboot of Scrapped Princess...I'd watch it!
