DigiKumo 2020 AMV Contest - WINNERS UP!

Post by MinetChan » Sat May 09, 2020 3:00 pm

Calling all editors! Kumoricon 2020’s AMV Contest is ready for AMV submissions!

Please follow this link to reach our online rules/submission page: https://www.kumoricon.org/amv-contest

Thank you to everyone who entered our AMV Contest, participated in our AMV Battle Royale, and attended our AMV Programming in 2019. Our in-person convention is being postponed until 2021. An online event, known as DigiKumo (November 6-8th, 2020), will replace this year's convention. You will find a lot of digital programming here, including the AMV Contest and any other AMV panels we develop. You can find more information here: https://www.kumoricon.org/digikumo

These changes will not affect AMV Contest prizing and we will still be sending out goodies to winners of our contest. The only changes to our AMV Contest will be the new online format and voting system.

Do keep in mind that plans may change due to COVID-19. As we learn more, I'll update this thread with the most current information.

AMV Battle Royale!

Unfortunately, we cannot have our AMV Battle Royale this year, but if you would like to be considered for 2021, please contact us. In this event, we pitch 3 editors against each other in a 2 hour live editing competition. Last year, DopplerDo won the Dungeons & Dragons themed battle with only 1.5 hours of editing time! Due to a scheduling error we had to cut time short, but all of the editors pulled through to make some incredible work. Major props to you all for hanging in there! Here is DopplerDo's video from last year:

If you are at all interested in participating for 2021, please email us at amv@kumoricon.org. We will send you a list of rules and see if you meet the qualifications for being a contestant.

AMV Contest

All of our rules have stayed the same, but this year you can enter up to three videos into separate categories. We are also continuing our 2019 rule of accepting non-Japanese sources, as long as they are anime/manga-styled. Notable examples that are allowed include: Voltron: Legendary Defender, Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.

We are so excited to continue hosting some of the best AMVs and AMV programming in the U.S. — and it's all because of your support that we can make this possible. Thank you!

Let the Games Begin!!!

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here are this year’s rules! They can also be found on the Kumoricon AMV Contest page.

CATEGORIES:

There are seven categories for the 2020 contest:

UPBEAT / FUN: We're looking for fast-paced enjoyment.
INTENSITY: Action, suspense, conflict, triumph, and despair!
DRAMA / SENTIMENTS: Give the audience the feels!
COMEDY / PARODY: Weird. Funny? Surprising!
TRAILERS: Short, sweet and to the point!
FAN FICTION: Rewrite the anime. Make your wildest dreams come true!
GUILTY PLEASURES: Delightfully annoying and cringey. Take the worst of pop culture and make it great.

CONTENT IS PG-13.
We try to run a clean show. This includes no themes likely to insult or disparage by race, social class, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality—because that's no fun for anybody.

CONTEST RULES:

ANIME: are Japanese animated productions featuring hand-drawn or computer animation (video game footage is not anime).
The majority (over 50%) of your entry's video content must consist of anime-styled or manga-styled content. Consideration will be given to other non-Japanese sources that feature such styles (examples of exceptions include Voltron: Legendary Defender, Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.)

TV station logos ("bugs") and other commercial indices must be obscured or removed.

Bumpers and credits are NOT allowed as we will be adding custom-made intro and outro slates for each AMV finalist. There is an exception for AMV titles (NOT credits) that add to the overall message and purpose of your AMV.

Parody uses of commercial logos are acceptable.

No source subtitles allowed. Intentionally added subtitles are okay.

No more than 3 entries per person, with no more than 1 entry per Category.
Maximum file size: 330MB.
Maximum duration: 5:00 minutes.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

To submit, you MUST UPLOAD your file to the Kumoricon AMV Contest page.

Your FILE NAME must include your AMV TITLE
Acceptable file formats are: avi, mpg, mp4, and mkv.
DO NOT send mov, rm, or wmv files.
Physical media (such as by mail) is NOT accepted at this contest.

***By submitting an AMV, you grant Kumoricon and the AMV Contest staff unconditional permission to use, copy, share and show that AMV.

DEADLINES:

Entries MUST be submitted by 4:30pm Pacific Daylight Time (UTC 23:30) on 01-September-2020.

A panel of judges will convene to review all entries and select up to six AMVs per category. The judges' decisions on the playlist is final.
All entries must have premiered or been created NO EARLIER than the previous year's Kumoricon (November 15, 2019).
Entries that have been finalists in previous Kumoricon contests are excluded from the 2020 contest.

PRIZES:

Each category will win one prize chosen by audience voting. The audience will also choose a Best of Show winner.
The coordinator/judges may make a Judges' Choice award, Technical Effects award, and Honorable Mention as well as any other awards they believe best represent the top AMVs shown at the contest.
Therefore, a guaranteed SEVEN prizes shall be awarded for 2020 with the potential to reach upwards of TWELVE prizes.

Each winner will receive a plaque or a trophy. A prize is usually an anime DVD or Blu-Ray, a manga, or an art book. Top prizes for Best In Show and Coordinator's Choice include anime figurines and/or other larger goodies.

Re: Kumoricon 2020 AMV Contest - DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 1ST!

Post by MinetChan » Wed Jul 22, 2020 4:49 pm

Hi everyone!

I've got some updates concerning Kumoricon.

Other then that, please keep on entering your videos! We have a little over 2 months remaining until our September 1st deadline.

We look forward to seeing you online!

Re: Kumoricon 2020 AMV Contest - Finalists Up!

Post by MinetChan » Sun Sep 20, 2020 8:38 pm

Hi everyone!

First off, a huge thank you to all of you for sending in your entries. We know that this year won't be the same, but at least we can still put on a great contest and enjoy some amazing art work.

To those of you who don't know yet, our in-person convention is being postponed until 2021. An online event, known as DigiKumo (November 6-8th, 2020), will replace this year's convention. You will find a lot of digital programming here, including the AMV Contest and any other AMV panels we develop. It's free to attend and you can enjoy a lot of other events from the comfort of your own home. You can find more information here: https://www.kumoricon.org/digikumo

We will still be sending out goodies to winners of our contest, but they may be less extravagant, as our budget has changed due to the pandemic. The only other changes to our AMV Contest will be the new online format and voting system. As we get closer, I'll send out information concerning when the contest livestream will occur and how to access it and participate. If anything else changes, I'll make sure to give you all a heads up.
We will be playing non-finalists in-between categories and at the very end of the contest. We will ensure that each video we received is played at least once. As we get closer, if you are interested in when your video will be played, let me know and I can give you a good estimate.

Now, onto the part you've all been waiting for... Here are the editors who will be participating in DigiKumo's 2020 AMV Contest!

Re: Kumoricon 2020 AMV Contest - UPDATES!!! Contest Livestream (Nov. 7th @ 3:30pm PDT)

Post by MinetChan » Thu Nov 05, 2020 5:02 pm

Hi everyone!

Here are the much anticipated details concerning DigiKumo and the AMV Contest livestream.

DigiKumo will consist of a Discord channel and livestreamed content. Keep in mind that you will need to create an account via the DigiKumo Registration page in order to participate in the content, as well as to vote in the AMV Contest. You may donate money upon registering, but it is not required to pay.

You will find the portal, along with the schedule here: kumoricon.org/digikumo

You can access the Discord channel here. You can link up your discord tag via the portal. Make sure to read the code of conduct channel and react to receive the KumoFan Role in order to begin interacting with people/events. You will see that each of the livestreams (Panels 1-4) have separate channels for discussion.

For 18+ content, you'll need to pay $1 to receive a specialized Discord badge.

The AMV Contest will be held on Saturday, November 7th from 3:30-7:00pm PST (in Stream #3 Niji). Please join us in the Niji Stream channel on Discord to talk with fellow editors and enthusiasts during the show. It is encouraged to watch the entire stream in order to participate in voting for all of the categories. Make sure to REGISTER (up above) in order for you to participate in voting. After the end of each category, we will be opening up voting for said category and then closing it at the end of a 10 minute intermission. During these 10 minute intermissions, we'll be featuring some of the entries that received high scores, but that didn't make it into the finalist bracket. And for the first time, stay tuned for a Best Non-Finalist award that will be announced during the AMV Award Ceremony on Sunday.

We will also be playing all of the Non-Finalists in two parts on Sunday, November 8th from 12:00-4:00pm PST (in Stream #4 Rozu). If you'd like an approximate time of when your video will be played, please let us know.

Our Award winners will be announced and played on Sunday, November 8th at 6:30pm PST (in Stream #2 Ami). I am also very pleased to announce that we will be giving out figures and commemorative plaques to each of the winners, as well as a trophy for our Best In Show. Keep in mind that shipping the prizes may take longer than usual.
