Otakuthon 2018 AMV contest : RESULTS ARE OUT NOW

Post by MusicalTendency » Tue Jun 12, 2018 5:42 pm

Hi ! The submissions for the AMV contest at Otakuthon is open.

Deadline: 27th of july 2018

General Information

AMV entries will be screened at the Otakuthon AMV Contest Screening on Friday, August 3, 2018. The AMV Contest screening will consists of two hours worth of the best videos submitted for the contest. During the screening, the audience will vote for their favourite AMV through secret ballot in the following categories: Comedy/Parody, Action, Drama/Romance and Originality. The audience will also vote for the "People's Choice" award for best AMV. If you are participating in the contest voting, please stay for the duration of the screening to give all AMVs a fair chance in the voting.

Otakuthon is proud to present the Anime Guy Best of Show AMV award!

The award rewarded for the best AMV clip is to honour a recently departed staff and friend of the convention. Howard Naud a.k.a. Anime Guy loved watching AMVs (having an enormous collection of his own!) and would never miss a show like this. Wherever Anime Guy is, he would like to thank you for your creativity and he would be proud of you all

All AMVs submitted will also be automatically entered into the "Anime Guy Best of Show" category for best overall AMV as well as the "Best Visual Effects/Video Editing" category. The winners of these two categories will be selected by a panel of AMV Contest judges prior to the convention.

Due to time constraints, not all AMVs will be shown during the contest screening.

Participants may enter a maximum of two video entries total (one entry per category).

Deadline : Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:59pm

I'm really sorry to heard that. I know you did won Best in Romance/Drama ( voted by the public) : Entry 25 - La Vida Madoka, maybe something happen on its way. Unfortunately I'm not the one that sent them, i only had a confirmation that it was mailed. I know that this year we are sending certificate instead of the other award because its really more simple to ship.

Again I'm really sorry that you did not received your award

It's all good. You didn't do anything. I just honestly couldn't remember if I did get anything or not, haha. But regardless of last year, I trust you'll do your best to make sure this year's contest runs smoothly!

To whom is reading the following post:

I am planning to enter 2 submissions into the Otakuthon 2018 AMV Contest and noticed the following format rule below:

Files for competition should be AVI, MPG, WMV or MP4 format and compressed using DivX or xVid video compression and MP3 audio compression.

However, I noticed that in this post, the rule does not include the "compressed using DivX or xVid compression" part. Does this mean that video files submissions with the above formats are fine, or are there specific formats that must include DivX/xVid compression? I ask this because my usual export settings are h.264 codec in order to upload my AMVs to Youtube.

I am planning to send an email to the AMV Contest Manager as well, but I appreciate any extra input clarifying the situation.

Thank you.

Also, it seems as though the email address for asking questions does not seem to work? I have been trying to send emails to atamvcontest@otakuthon.com for questions, but I've been receiving an error message saying the email could not be delivered.

Is there anyone who could explain if the email I am using is correct?

I originally thought I had a chance of at least making it to the preliminary rounds, but seeing through the AMVs that made it, it was very evident that each one had outmatched me and I still need to work a lot harder to improve my AMVs, ha ha.

Congratulations to everyone who won in their category, as well as everyone who got a chance to have their AMVs hosted onto the big screen! You all deserve praise for the hard work you put into your AMVs!
