So, in the AMV League rules (like in the rules for most contests) we state that any instance of non-editor-added subtitles will result in disqualification.
How do y'all usually handle cases of "sign" subtitles? Like this one:
Showing up in a video for a couple seconds. We're probably gonna err on the side of the rules and disqualify it, but curious how y'all would treat this kind of case. Are we being overstrict dicks?
Quick question for AMV contest runners - would you disqualify this?

I'm assuming it was used for artistic purpose or storytelling so not sure why it would merit a DQ.

It's not really relevant to the video; it's translating the Japanese title of the in-anime YouTube video (you can see the Japanese characters at the bottom).MycathatesyouAMV wrote:I'm assuming it was used for artistic purpose or storytelling so not sure why it would merit a DQ.

First glance it makes me cringe, but i'd have to watch the whole vid to make a decision.

You should probably just contact the editor and start a conversation about their intent. If they feel that translation is essential to their video, then they should be allowed to keep it. But if they just kept it because they were too lazy to either crop it or use a raw source, then DQ it.
