Re: Otakuthon 2015 AMV contest now open
I was there and would love to tell you but first let me tell you why I can't. i.e. why I have a ton of issues with how this contest is run, despite the guy running it for 8 years.shorisquared wrote:Any news on who made finals and what videos won?
1. The organizer doesn't provide editor names on either the ballot or title cards before the videos. He provided catagory, source, song and title, but no editor information regarding to look up a video that you liked or who made it. Credit isn't given where credit is due
2. They offer category voting but the categories are unbalanced (large), are presented out of order seemingly randomly, and don't allow you to cleanly reference back to the video you like. Like I'll show 3 drama, 1 action and then an originality video, BUT if I didn't remember the video title or number I'm fucked.
3. They don't announce the winners or have a winners panel during the con, they claim they will be up on facebook, but who knows if that will be true.
4. Also to the best of my knowledge (despite having at least one video in the contest) they didn't send out finalist confirmations, or even a hey we got your video confirmation.
5. The contest organizer didn't even stay for the contest, I got called away to meet a friend and was to angry to go back, and 10 min later I saw him wandering in the halls.
TL;DR
I believe that the Otakuthon AMV contest coordinator doesn't value submissions or giving credit for submitters.

Wow. Thank you for the insight. It seems very apparent that the contest needs a major overhaul.davenfonet wrote:I was there and would love to tell you but first let me tell you why I can't. i.e. why I have a ton of issues with how this contest is run, despite the guy running it for 8 years.shorisquared wrote:Any news on who made finals and what videos won?
