Tsukino-con 2015 AMV Contest Dance Category Winner

Post by KiraPet » Thu Feb 19, 2015 12:28 am

The original thread where people were complaining has been locked and I'm not sure if this will even be read by anyone who was bashing the contest or freaking out on Amy. The video submitted for the Dance Category this year that won was my video. I had not posted it on Youtube nor on a-m-v.org yet as I have not finished compiling the list of all the animes I used in the video. Amy messaged me on Facebook to let me know that people were saying my video belonged to some one else. I had never in my life seen this other video. Shame on anyone who goes around complaining that they didn't win and then accusing people of ripping of an AMV when they don't even have the proper facts. I understand maybe things were not done or explained the correct way, however anyone who entered the contest in previous years knew what they were getting into. I knew before I even decided to enter the dance category that it was one of the hardest because not many people enter submissions. I have entered this contest at least 4 or 5 times over the last few years and have only ever won twice. When I lost I may not have been happy but I was not angry. It made me want to work harder and learn more about the programs I was using. When I won I felt elated because not only did I beat local submissions, I beat videos the coordinators thought were amazing. Tsukino-con is the only AMV contest I enter and I will keep entering. I'm sorry if your video was entered without your knowledge or if you did not win your category but it was all up to the audience. For those who want to compare my video to the one I supposedly copied please take a look. The list of anime will be posted as soon as I am finished. I will also upload my video onto a-m-v.org sometime in the next few days.

Thank you,

In the heat of the moment, people were upset and a mistake was made. Sorry for that and grats on your win

I don't think that anyone here was upset about not winning since most didn't know that they'd entered. D:

However, I do think that this community is too quick to go on a witch hunt and I'm sorry that you took the brunt of it, Kirapet. :( I don't know how that video was linked with you originally, since 2 seconds of Googling will bring up both your Org profile and Youtube account.

And also:

You mean, "I made a mistake". Even if someone had posted the video previously, you don't go through posting example screencaps and a wall of text berating someone for theft without doing a little research and knowing 100% that the video is theirs. Yes, mistakes happen, but own up to it. Theft is a regular thing in the AMV community, but it's important to assign blame where it's due so as not to cause exactly what happened.

Typically, we don't allow threads for single videos in the AMV Contests forum, but as long as this remains civil, I'll leave it for visibility so that editors can hopefully learn a little bit about exercising caution when it comes to accusations of theft.

Thank you so much. I saw your post defending me in the original thread and I greatly appreciated it. I look up to you so it made me feel a bit better.

In a contest where videos were being used without permission, it wasn't hard for me to believe that an amv won that used parts of someone else's video.
I rarely get mad at things, but someone stealing another's work is one of them, so when a link was posted of a video with the exact same name as yours, I blew it up. I should have looked more into it, but at that point I wasn't thinking straight. Believe me when I say my only intention was to defend an editor who I thought was wronged. Luckily that wasn't the case.

Im sorry if I upset you, and once again, grats on your win.

Just as an FYI, "Fantastic Baby" is the name of the song, which is why there are many AMVs with that name.

I've been on both sides, so I can understand frustration with another person getting credit when you've spent months perfecting the masking and effects, but I've also been accused of stealing AMVs (generally because the video that I "stole" from took from me....but still) and that is equally as frustrating. I hope that you aren't too soured on our community because of it. Congratulations on your win!

I hadn't heard of the song before yesterday and the contest list which seems to have been taken down only showed the artist, but that makes a lot of sense

Haha, good thing Gorz happened to take a screenshot!

Image

The titles of the AMVs are not even included, actually. (I imagine it's too much to fill the ballot. )
It's Editor Name - Anime Used - Song Title - Artist - Length
