The original video is not dry humor, its on the farce/melodrama/satire spectrum. Serial Experiments Lain actually is a drama so Bleak Friday can't utilize the same type of exaggeration, and I think that's why it can go either way.

Personally I think it just doesn't fit in either category well, but obviously there wasn't a better option and since it got its share of laughs obviously everything worked out.

Actually that's really good insight, good sound point and argument. I would personally say that satire often uses sarcasm or dry humor as elements of it, but that's another discussion all together, we should probably get back on topic, lol...
