I think the entire reason people make such a big deal about who wins what with what and how (myself included, im guilty of this as well), is because in general, awards = status.
I think all of us should step back and look at what exactly an award is and what it means. Who judges your video? Who decides to give you an award? Are these judges better than you? Nope. Are they more qualified to pass their judgement as official? Nope. They are just people who run a convention and like videos. Thats it. Given, some contests (thank heavens) take it way more serious than most (AWA, Otakon, ect) but for the most part, an award is given by a group of about 3-5 anime dorks in their 20's. And these people aren't even editors most of the time. I'm not going to debate why these people are giving awards as thats a whole different subject, but the point I'm trying to make is that the peice of paper, or the hunk of glass they send you doesn't mean much. I've got one and it was cool for about a day, then I got over it. How are people who aren't editors qualified to judge music videos? And even if they do like your video, what does that mean? Nothing in my opinion.
Awards may give you status, and people may know your name, but it doesn't give you respect. Theres a lot of terrible editors with awards, and theres brilliant editors without any awards, and everything in between. Winning an award doesn't make you hot shit.
