Another FYI. This is dictated in the PDF but it doesn't hurt for me to reinforce. You must fill out the PDF and save it. You can't print it or give it to me as a jpg pr txt file.

Why?

Because I export the data you type in to a spreadsheet so I don't have to type up 100+ entries and then spellcheck them all. The reality is I wouldn't spellcheck them since I'd have my friend who doesn't speak any English check how I did. He's also dyslexic. Trust me this is good for all of us :)

Anyway if your names are misspelled on title cards at Acen I can't be blamed now! Cut & Paste how more ez-mode can I get?

Hope everyone is having fun ^_^

Some people are trying to put double byte characters into the file such as – instead of -. There is a difference. So manually name your filenames (don't cut and paste the name from some application)
I almost did that myself since it shows it that way on the contest rules page [that's how it displays for me anyways] You might want to change that to avoid problems with the latecomers...

If you managed to get the files uploaded with the double byte - don't worry about. For some people it is giving their ftp clients issues though and they cannot upload due to it. While for others the upload goes through but then when they pull down the directory listing they don't see the files in their client.

Sunuva...

Thanks. It's probably too late to get that fixed though =p. I'll get a note about this added to the ftp info we send out though.

Yea I know how that got in there too. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for the upload confirmation. :)

For those of you wondering how to fix your luma for con displays, here's a tip that I posted in the Otakon thread. Make an avisynth file that contains the following:

Code: Select all

AVISource("C:\yourlosslessfile.avi")
converttoyv12()
ColorYUV(levels="PC->TV")
Then just load the AVS file into TMPGEnc and encode.

I watched two test encodes of my entry, one with luma clamping and one without. It really does make a difference, even just on my PC screen. It must be something in the way that MPEG-2's are played back...

EDIT
Per a PM from Scintilla:

I bet <b>Tweak(coring=true)</b> is faster.

(You might even be able to give NO parameters, as I'm pretty sure the <b>coring</b> parameter defaults to true anyway.)
Thanks! :D

I was wondering why my mpeg looked so bright, [I've never made an MPEG-2 before, and never expected to have to... >.>]

<.< can I reupload mine? I'll name it v2 or something...

Just a reminder, tomorrow is your LAST DAY to request FTP access. I have classes all day Monday which means I will not be able to give you the ftp information in time to meet the deadline.
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

I'm 99% sure I'm not attending since I have a research paper deadline, but yeah...having gone to ACen since *counts* 2000 (wow now I *do* feel old compared to you ACen noobs :P), I am beginning to see a JCD video in the contest as a staple. At least from 2004 where you submitted (I think) your Kiddy Grade video (that went LA LA LALALALA LA LA), which I voted for...but was outvoted on >_>. I can say that 4 years later right? :P
