I know what it means...although I guess I missed that in looking over the page..but my reasoning at why you may not get as many submissions as you'd like still stands.

i realize its not very clear, what that means is that unless you attend, you cannot submit, unless you find an agent. And i believe more cons do it than you think.

Better wording would be something like "Attendance to the convention is mandatory if you would like to enter your video into the AMV contest." How you're going to track this I have no idea, unless you're going by someone's pre-registration in advance (which is how JACON does it).

A few words of advice, Dynamicman, if you continue to post about this contest though...

1) If people offer suggestions, acknowledge them so they know you at least read them. There seem to have been a great many misunderstandings in this thread and that may divert attention from the true matter of hand here which is the finer details of this AMV contest. Although I noticed that some of the changes you made to the contest page incorporated their suggestions/requests, you never signaled to anyone that you read their posts and that, quite frankly, comes off as arrogance.

2) If you cite the convention website, make sure that it really says what you think it says at the time of your post. If it doesn't reflect what you are saying, that only causes more confusion and misunderstanding.

3) Proofread the site. Maybe get other people to look at it, like whatever other contest coordinators you are in contact with. The first place that people interested in the contest are going to look is at the contest webpage. If that doesn't read well, you will probably have a lot rougher time with the contest than you are hoping for. If certain aspects of the contest are uncertain, then make sure to mention that they are still being worked out, or take down the page and say that the full rules will be posted later, when you have them completely worked out.

4) Back up your statements. If you don't, you may get challenged by someone who knows better, or at least thinks they know better. The only contest that I can think of that requires attendance from this year is JACON. And really, you only needed to pay the pre-registration fee. The AWA Masters Contest used to have an attendance requirement, but I believe they dropped it in 2002 or thereabouts (where's MCWagner or Jingoro when you need them?).

Thanks for the advice, i'll take it to heart.

The site has in fact been constantly changing, due to advice I recieve.
I'm sorry if people don't know i'm listening, but theres a "Thanks to:" at the bottom of the page (if its not there yet, it will be soon)

Logicaly, if the webmaster is not at his computer(like now), I can't make a change. I don't have the privilages to make all the changes i'd like to when I want to, I wish I did.

I'd like to point out Anime-Expo, the other LA con, requires attendince(EDIT: to recieve prizes), and we're basing our contest off of that.

Also, attendence is mandatory TO RECIEVE PRIZES. Sorry if this wasn't clear, but unless you, or someone you know is there, we can't hand you the prize. Which is a big thing to us.

No, it doesn't. I've entered its contest multiple times, and I've never been there. One year, I don't think I even had a proxy.

we don't have trophies, and so any prizes we happen to aquire to the contest will be given to attendies. We don't have the money to ship prizes. And we are certanly not to use menbers money to pay for shipping to non-members. Does that make sense?

Does that sound good for the site? different wording somewhere?

Is it known yet which day the AMV contest will be held? I may not be able to attend the entire convention due to school and such. If I were there for two days, but not the day of the AMV contest, for example, should I just not submit, even though I am still a con attendee?

That depends on the days you can attend. If you come after, sure. Before, more questionable. But lets find out the dates you are there first.
We were think of holding it on friday night. Is this agreeable to everyone?
We havn't set a definate date yet, because we want to hear what you all want. Vote now and determine the fate of the anime-la AMV contest!

Saturday (29th)
Sunday (30th)

I was thinking Friday night, with an awards ceremony on sunday.

So theoretically, if the contest were held on Friday, but someone wasn't there til Saturday, everything would be OK?

Most likely, as with most cons, there will be the most people on Saturday, then Friday, and then Sunday. At least, that's been my experience.

Also, if you want to be acknowleged for a good AMV, see if you can be there.
Again, the contest is currently scheduled for friday night
Can you still not attend? We'll try to accomidate everyone, does anyone else have an opinion?

Just tell people when it is and if they want to enter, they will.

Oh, just in case anyone took it that way, I am definitely NOT assuming I will win anything. I just like figuring out technicalities and stuff in the off chance that it might benefit myself or someone else. ^-^
