Oh! So both of my entries made the cut. I sure hope I didn't bore some people with one of my videos... :)

Congrats to the finalists, and good luck to all!

Is there a possibility of getting any notes on my entry so I can make any necessary adjustments or perhaps an opinion? It was the Elfen Lied / Muse drama video. :book:

Looking at the finalists, it's definitely shaping up to be an interesting AMV contest.

P. S. LOL at the comment next to Kosmit (after all, his Otakon was "interesting", to say the least).

I don't get it. If the amount of submissions is so low, why is it fair to pick 2 of one creator over someone who didn't make it in the contest. It isn't just one or two people, but a lot of creators got two videos in. I'm sure I'm in the minority in my opinion, but wouldn't it be better to allow more people to get in (unless their video broke a rule or was just downright unusable). Sure the audience might not think its the best, but there is a sense of reward in just seeing it on the big screen.

I mean I didn't think mine was that bad, so I guess I am a little surprised.

So happy I got in! Especially with a lot of big name amv people on that list.

My logic here, and it's ever-changing, is that the audience is the ultimate authority. If we bump "better" videos to make room for a wider selection of editors, then yes, we might make a few editors happy, maybe 5 or even 10 people, but then I have to deal with hundreds upon hundreds of audience members whining about how bad the contest was. I'll get that anyways, it happens at every con, but I do what I can to dial it down :) If you're making art for art's sake, then you can't complain if it doesn't get shown. If you're making something to entertain an audience, and the pre-screening team has determined that the audience would PROBABLY rather sit through something else, then you also can't complain because then you're basically saying "LOOK AT MY VIDEO, I DON'T CARE IF YOU LIKE IT, YOU'RE GONNA WATCH IT ANYWAYS" and I don't think that's the message that you want to send :)

Again, I can gear the contest towards the creators' interests and make 35 people happier, or I can gear it towards the audience's interests and make hundreds-to-thousands of people happier. I still treat every entry with the utmost respect in that I encode everything with care, fix technical problems (and BOY are there plenty!) and screen the overflow in the same room as the AMV contest (hell, this year we're doing it twice), but at the end of the day, the final contest is put together for the audience.

Woo, got in again! I don't think I'll ever stop being nervous reading over the list - doesn't help that I didn't get into the last contest I submitted into.

Btw, can I ask which category I got into? I'm always torn between submitting this into comedy, upbeat or drama, so I'm curious as to where the judges placed it... Even if two of those categories are one now.
