Re: The Otakon 2010 Thread (OK now panic)
Just...wow!
As the "executive producer" for the AMV Salad series and assistant DH for Katsucon and AMA AMV department, I empathize with Vic. I can't believe Otakon of all conventions is treating one of its staple events like this. I don't care how loud I'd have to scream or how high up the ladder of authority I had to go, as much as I understand wanting to "give up" and "lose hope," I couldn't allow such shenanigans to go unchecked or uncalled. It's things like this that has a serious ripple effect if publicized.
Let's look at the decline so far. The con gets more expensive to attend, the events become less entertaining, the convention as a whole is more poorly run, I find myself spending more time hanging out and photographing than attending panels, and now this with the AMV and fan parody programming.
I'll say this much. If things go as badly as it presently sounds like it will, behind the scenes or in the public view, I won't hesitate to encourage everyone I can reach to withhold their membership next year in favor of another convention. If this is the path Otakon has chosen to continue along, I won't hesitate to take AMV Salad's future world premieres elsewhere (never mind my money and loyalty).
Don't get me wrong. I do hope things are straightened out and all is set right somehow. But if not I would hope any editors who entered this or in previous years think about making some other convention the premiere contest site.

yeah, but on the other hand, not going to the amv contest gives me more time for the dealer's room so...
Gratz to those that potentially made the cut. Hopefully your AMVs will be shown in a good way.

Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

See some names on there that I haven't seen in AMVs for awhile like Blood Sugar Productions and others that have impressed me so far like Lawrence Studios. Damn shame it'll be the first Otakon in 8 or 9 years I won't be attending
.
Congrats to the finalists and good luck!

Wow. Sometimes you make it in when you don't think you will! Thanks to the pre-screener attendees - you do have fine taste

In case we don't get to see the entries that didn't make the cut, I hope some kind of list of entries (or highlights thereof) will be posted so we can check them out for ourselves.
Congratulations to the finalists, and good luck in the contest!

A practical matter: If it turns out there is no overflow, do you know yet what would be the best way to get our AMV VIP passes, for those of us who entered the contest?

Sorry about those of you who didn't get in. There were some really good gems that just couldn't make the cut. Too bad Otakorp thinks Ramen Fighter Miki is more important than you.
