Beowulf wrote:Pro was a disgrace. By far the worst year I've seen. I was really dissapointed, as Pro is always a very interesting contest, but man it was just AWFUL.

Out of 50 something videos there was, what, two? three good ones?

ITS ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE PEOPLE. TRY SOMETHING NEW. ITS QUITE SAD WHEN THE BEST VIDEO IN THE ENTIRE CONTEST WAS DONE A YEAR AGO AND USED NARUTO INSTEAD OF BLEACH.

I beg to differ, BTB is a good technical video but seriously had not that much else that made it great. As you said it's another Naruto Technique Beat only using Bleach, so how is that any more original than the Utena to Hendrix vid or Firewall? Undiscovered Countries also was very much stylish and gave a slight shot of artsyness that you expect in pro.

Even some of the vids that were not necessarily original were done quite well. They just didn't grab me as much. Let's be honest in that there aren't all that many original ideas left. Even those of us saying it was not as good this year admit that the bad is that more vids blend in and are not as identifyable, which also means there's a lot less garbage being made and tossed in.

First off, this being my first year in Pro, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed in the overall quality of the videos. Maybe I expected too much, but there were way too many crappy videos. Then again, I guess I liked more videos than Beo did, but then who doesn't these days?

I should also say that the What is Love video should've stayed as a Hell 3 segment. Setting that aside, I can't see what's so great about the Hendrix video. I dunno, maybe I need to watch it again, or maybe it's just another Purpose of Persacoms. :/

The KgNE video should've beat out that crappy AMG video to at least get into the finals for Romance, if not win the whole thing. The Kingdom Hearts and Champloo videos were also really great. BTB was okay, but a bit too dotty for me; I could hardly tell what was going on. Then again, I never watched much Bleach, so that could be a factor.

The Haruhi video was pretty cool, but something seemed off about that I still can't quite put my finger on. Then there was the Popularity video, which interestingly enough was better in the beta stages, iirc.

Fortunately, there are only about three people I have to kick in the shins at AWA, so it wasn't too bad overall I suppose.

Yes, that video really sucked as I was not even mentioned... The creator just hates us. I'll have to make a note of that at my panel :P

Vlad
Heres mentioning you...

You just compared Vlad to the old pedophile of family guy. . . .

This was my second year entering Pro. I have to say last year had more stand out amv's. However this year the amv's were still good for majority of them except not as many stood out. I was only disappointed with a few. Even at Otakon when I heard rumors of BTB. I couldn't wait to see it. BTB was good on a technical end but I thought there could have been more to it. There are still original ideas out there but you have to look for them and be creative. I think that this year videos were well made with timing and lyrical sync for the most part. One other thing this year was no 25 minute amv. Beowulf I liked your video last year but I had to pause it for a break. Then I watched it a second time I had my soda and popcorn ready for your show. I thought the #13 amv using Dragon Ball Z was a really good video. I liked the story and feeling involved in that video. Which is unusual for a DBZ amv. AMV Developers was also great, free advertisment for animemusicvideos.org and the creators.

Anyways this was not necessarily a bad year for pro. There were memorable videos this year. I look forward to Atlanta one week from now.

I agree the Kiminozu should have been in the finals for romance since it not only showed a more tense and not fluffy relationship but also told a story with it.

As far as Utena... it is style over substance in that case, which does fit both the title and the music. I personally found it neat to look at and appreciated to see an Utena vid that was not romance oriented.

Indeed, I was mentioned, so that automatically makes it my favorite video of the year

I'm happy for the simple fact that my name went right on top of the Daicon Bunny.
