I'm saying if you don't attend the convention, then you could still enter it, for the other reasons. I'm trying to take into account the poor college students who can't even travel to the nearest convention. If it's their nearest convention, they should be able to enter it, regardless of if they can attend.
That seems a bit hypocritical. If you say that people shouldn't enter unless they are going to be at the cons, then maybe the "poor college students" should enter online contests. There are plenty of those out there that are free for poor college students to enter if they are in it for the recognition.

I'd also like to point out that people are naming specifics and as a result people are arguing about it. This further supports the idea that there is no black and white solution since all of us feel differently.

Well, I guess all I'm getting at is that I don't want you to feel forced into doing something. Your decisions to be just that...YOURS.

on that same note, its tough to make ones own decision when you're being pressured into one thing in a forum, encouraged by PMs, and getting emails from cons asking if we're sure about withdrawing because they really do not mind the whole situation

not to mention having to discuss everything amongst 3 people
enough angsting for now

I'm sorry BogoSort, I wasn't directing that towards you. I just used your post to reply with since you and Machine were talking about that some thing.

As for what you said about "giving local creators blah blah blah" I coulden't care less about that. I'm all about giving EVERYONE an equal chance. I don't care if someone from CA submitts to Otakon. I just don't like when someone who had already won awards at previous cons is all.

So ya know I am one of these nut jobs that hates trolling :D
But to be honest, there is nothing I hate worst then a hypocrite. So if I did wina con, sure I would eat it up, but I would have all my submissins pulled from other cons as long as the submission deadline was not over. I would wrather kill myself (I'm a disturbed individual so....I really would) then go against something I believe strongly against. No one respects people who don't follow their own rules.

I'm going away now

Yeah, I'm with you guys - not that it sours me on AMVs, but on con showings of AMVs.

Honest to god, if it's THAT IMPORTANT to you guys to win, if it CRUSHES YOUR SOULS to lose, perhaps you should a) seek therapy and b) not enter at all.

Because I think you've lost sight of having fun.

Damn, that's my unfiltered opinion. Hate when that slips out...

Hmmm... just jumping into the fray here with my own worthless comments... I don't really see what's so bad about trolling. I mean, sure, it's kinda rude and in bad taste, but if a creator want's to be like that, then I see no reason to stop them. The main argument seems to be, "This person made a video that is too good, so other people dont have a chance to win. This isn't fair." In my humble opinion, removing a video just because it is good enough to have won a few awards is unfair. I mean its like taking an olympic gold medalist and telling them, "sorry, you cant compete this year because you won the gold last year. We need to give the other guys a chance so they wont have their feelings hurt." Personally, if I was entering a contest, and some other video that entered the contest got disqualified for trolling, then I ended up winning... how should I feel? Am I supposed to feel ecstatic that I won something after the greatest competitor was removed from the playing field? Just something to think about...

I'd have to agree. Like you said if they wanna do it...they're free to so long as they follow the rules of the contest. At the same time, I also agree with healthy competition. It wouldn't feel like a clean win if well...there's no competition.

At the same time, what you said at the beginning is the main reason for this discussion (or rather why I am particularly discussing it).

It's rude and in bad taste.

As I said at the beginning, since there is nothing technically wrong with it and well...the solution is someting along the lines of world peace (All creators being nice to each other, considering each other's feelings, thinking ahead and so on, which isn't going to happen...I am a pessimist) I don't see any solution in sight. At the same time, it doesn't mean we can't discuss our feelings on this in a calm fashion (which is occuring for the most part).
