If your video looks exceptionally stunning, it would only make since that you get a extra point or two since it adds to the charm. And if your video looks like horse shit, it would probably get DQed.MycathatesyouAMV wrote:Is video quality a factor in juding at all ? Just wondering

It won't get DQ'd, but it will get downranked into oblivion. If nobody wants to look at the video, nobody will want to watch it either. That last sentence makes sense, you just have to read it a few times.kireblue wrote:If your video looks exceptionally stunning, it would only make since that you get a extra point or two since it adds to the charm. Lord knows on at least 1/3 of the 136 videos I watched at the pre-screenings, I wrote LOOKS LIKE ASS in big letters for many of the entries. Or words to that effect.VicBond007 wrote:It won't get DQ'd, but it will get downranked into oblivion. If nobody wants to look at the video, nobody will want to watch it either. You'd think by sending an entry to Otakon, you could have at least used proper footage, not stuff that came off of YouTube or downloaded fansubs. If you're going to rip footage, do it from legit (or near-legit) sources....

Nah, I got it the first time. But the day I think "oh, this video has good picture quality" as my first positive thought is the day peeps need to re-evaluate a few things regarding their footage sources.VicBond007 wrote:It won't get DQ'd, but it will get downranked into oblivion. If your video has bad picture quality, ghost/orphan frames, or other noticeable technical problems, I wouldn't say it has no chance at all. But it'd have to be REALLY good to overcome those issues.

Well, having the choice between Omar, Babcock, Bryce, or you...hmm...never mind, I forgot what apt witticism I was going to come up with...Scintilla wrote:I don't know whether this is better or worse than being the challenger. Well, I hope everyone likes saxophone music.VicBond007 wrote:Iron Editor
Kiarrens is going up against reigning champ Christopher Brown. The theme is Vampires Suck, and the sources are ALMOST locked in. Scintilla will be hosting the event.
Anyway, can I be judge? Pretty please?

Re: The Otakon 2011 Thread
I like to think that most people can ignore the quality issues that just come with using older anime sources because we're used to seeing that sort of thing. We know it's not supposed to be vibrant and clear all the time. But when a video is using some new hotness, you can't really hide behind that anymore. Even if you obtain your footage by questionable means, that high quality source is very likely out there if you know what to look for.
Lower video quality is fine until it becomes a - "Wow...look at all that blocking!" - distraction.

Arrrgh! *shakes fist again* With our combined powers the audience groaning could have pierced the heavens! I was really looking forward to that.kiarrens wrote:Oh well, yet another year that Otakon finals elude me. I guess I'll have to work super hard in Iron Editor to assuage my shame.
