Ohayocon 2009 AMV Contest Rules - Deadline Jan 9th 2009

Just a notice to everyone who requires the use of non US characters for their names/adresses. Currently the system will display these characters wrong, often with a ? or some other placeholder character. This has confused a few people who have asked me to alter their information with english characters.

This alteration is not needed specifically. The system does store data in UTF-8 Unicode encoding, and stores these special characters properly. It is the system itself that seems to be translating the characters into gibberish. I am working on a fix to this problem, but it is not an extremely high priority over other glitches that are being fixed, but it will be fixed. The system does store the proper information and I am able to access this information properly, so don't be alarmed if you notice these junk characters.

The only thing that really matters is the video file name. If you notice a junk character in your suggested file name please replace that junk character with the actual character or an equivalent US standard character before uploading your file. This should ensure that the file uploads correctly and that I am able to access the file.

Hey, great work on the entry system! It makes the whole thing look super professional. Much better than the AMV contest at another con I went to. (Man what a mess that was)

Anyway, first time going to Ohayocon, and I am just wondering how judging will work? Is there going to be a panel of judges scoring certain criteria, or is it going to be by crowd vote/applause volume?

All awards except the Staff Pick will be awarded from ballots filled out by attendees at con. The staff pick will be chosen by Ohayocon AMV Staff.

This is your friendly and near final reminder that you have aprox little over 1 week to get your videos in to the contest!

Down to the wire folks. Get your FTP requests in soon or be ready to fork over for overnight postage!

Just a note for those of you who have or are planning on submit entries.

All entries that have been received have been noted as such in the system, you can view your video's status through the system.

Those of you who may have noticed your video having been disqualified for any reason can still submit that video to the contest for competition if the problems outlined through the system have been fixed. Such as uploading a distro version with bumpers instead of the credit-less version intended for the contest.

Videos will not be deleted from the system, so simply rename the new version adding something like "updated" or something along those lines. It may also be a good idea to drop me a line through email informing me that a new version has been sent so I will know to check for it.

hi, this is your friendly reminder that you have aprox 47 hours left to get your entries in.

User's sending entries by mail will be pleased to note that I will accept entries through the weekend. i.e. I will accept entries received Saturday.

FTP users will be pleased to note that they will have through the weekend in order to get their videos in. at 12:01 Eastern Monday morning (00:01 for you 24 hour folks) the FTP server will be turned off. If your entry has not been recieved by then, best of luck next year.

In order for you to take advantage of this offer, you must have both your Entry form and your FTP request in by 12:01 Eastern Saturday morning. At that time the database will cease taking new entries and allowing users to request FTP access. If you do not get your entry form and/or FTP request in by that time, best of luck next year.

The contest submission process is now officially over. Thank you to everyone who submitted a video. I will be making the final updates for videos which have been submitted these past few days and then begin on the selection process for the finalists.

Keep in mind, once your video has been selected your video's status will change from "video checked" to "video accepted". If your video does not make it in the status will change from "video checked" to "video cut".

The list of finalists that will compete at the con will be announced within 1 week of the convention. If you video does not make it in we are sorry but this step is necessary, better luck next year.
