I see they included one of your AMV in the finalist list too...

Vlad
Indeed they did. I'm gonna go do some research and see how their structure is lined up. Seems like a safe bet to me that they're not recognized in the US as an LLC, and so the principals lack the protections of such a structure, i.e. they could be named individually in any civil motions people might be willing to attempt vis-a-vis impersonation, libel/slander (suggesting you willingly supported their contest), etc. I wholly suggest others to look into it themselves as well.

I am strongly AGAINST bringing any legal action against them. That could open up a can of worms and ultimately cause serious damage to the AMV community as a whole. We don't want another Evanescence situation. You don't use a fire extinguisher to put out a candle. You either blow it out our just let it burn out.

Not saying we can't continue to shake our fists at them. They deserve to know we're angry. Bad publicity is enough to put out any fire, even if it takes a little longer. Let's not burn ourselves in the process.

As I said via PM, the content of the videos are immaterial. Their presence combined with their attribution to their respective creators imply consent and endorsement of the event within the rule set established by the event by said creators. That can constitute impersonation, fraud, libel/slander, etc. Check your local statutes to determine applicability.

EDIT - Under the advice of council, I'm going to remove myself from this thread.

I wasn't affected by this but, it would probably upset me too if people were showing my video in a public display like this without my consent. Unless, you know, I was invited :D

Well, I think legal action on this would be a bit to extreme as AMVs are already kind of on shaky ground... Awareness amongst the community is the best thing
