So, I'm nearing completion of my first AMV. (yay!) I'm not sure how the following idea crept into my head (so don't ask) but for some time now I've always thought that an AMV shown at a convention has to be completely fresh, never shown anywhere else before. Is that true? I'd really like to see it shown in front of a whole bunch of people in a contest somewhere, but then again I'd like you guys "the community" to take a peek and give me a bit of an early response and such. Point out the annoying newbish mistakes I probably made. If I posted the on this website, would that disqualify me? I know its probably on a case-by-case basis, but could you give me any insight? I'm really anxious to show it to the world! Thanks in advance.

Beta feedback request goes in amv suggestions, and it depends on the con. Some do, some have limited time slots, some don't have any as far as I know. A finished version posted has a slim possibility of disqualifying you, but a beta, no. I'd recommend something like www.senduit.com to upload your beta to, the org servers are for finished videos only. It's best to find out what con you want to show it at before posting it on the site. I think AWA requires videos to premiere there first, but I'm not sure.

Actually, if you're talking about Expo, then not really. Pro, yes, definitey new, but with Expo, they receive so much that they don't particularly care whether you're premiering it there first or not. Least that's what I heard last time I asked...genestarwind21122 wrote:Well if that's the case with AWA I've been messing up the past few years.I think with AWA it is highly recommended that it be a fresh amv. As for other conventions its not necessary.

Conventions with rules that entries must premiere at the con don't usually have issues with it being posted on the .org first; it's mostly to discourage entries that have been around the con circuit already. I think the AWA Masters contest might have been an exception to that rule, but I don't know for certain.

Wow, thank you for all your quick responses! I have been reading the contest details for many conventions (even ones I have no intention of attending) and could not find mention of a "must be new" rule anywhere! I figured either I made it up in my head, or it was so important and obvious it need not be said.
So yeah... thanks!

Anime North considers this site a public venue, so any videos posted here have already premiered. Their rules stipulate that a video must have premiered after Nov 1 2006, so if you've posted it after that date, you're fine.
In the past, AN has been kinda lax about enforcing this rule, though.
This year, there's a new coordinator and violating this rule will lead to disqualification (also new).
Other cons have different policies, so make sure you check their rules.
