Ill probobly just go for saturday cause i dont want to have to pay for a room. they havent put the schedule yet but im hoping they put the contest on saturday so i can check it out.
Their contest coordinator is a friend of mine and it's his first time handeling a contest as far as I know. He's a very thourough kind of guy. But from previous years I know the contest usually was on Friday night, which annoyed me because in years past I only went on Saturday (drove from Lexington). I can imagine it'll be the same this year.

I just check out there site today and it looks like the contest is gonna be on saturday evening. woot

Well that's definetly cool. I'll hopefully get to see it after a good full nights sleep for once ^^ too bad I couldn't get anything into the contest this year. Sugoi has been like one of the only 2 cons I'd submit to in the past and it feels weird not to have a video in it this year.

I was kinda feeling bad about spamming up the other thread myself ^^()

I didn't. It seems like it had pretty much dropped to the point where it was mostly just joking and discussion and not that informative anymore.

That is good news. I may end up just driving up on Saturday and Sunday instead of staying with my friend who lives in the suburbs of Cinci over the weekend. Kami knows I need all the time I can get to finish getting things cleaned up and set up after the move.

I assume that they usually do the AMV awards at the closing ceremonies? (Given neither of my videos fit well in either of their categories I don't expect to win, but would like to be there to see what does...)

With a no trolly rule and the contest being announced so late it will be interesting to see what wins. and i just got an email yesterday saying that they axed one of my videos because they had to combine the comedy and satire category together for lack of entries. :(

And furthermore- I don't believe it was ever announced here- I think this topic (effectively branched off another contest's) is the first mention of it this year. I only knew about it because of being halfway local.

I can't say I'm surprised at their having to combine the Comedy and Satire categories... the categories were set up rather strangely for what I would expect is a relatively small convention & contest. Normally you don't have a trailer/parody category unless you have an overabundance of them and plenty of entries elsewhere (like Tekkoshocon, for example). Personally I think Otakon's category split works the best by far: Drama, Romance, Action, Upbeat, and Comedy. There are still videos that don't fit well into any one category, but you get a lot better definition between them than the four that were planned for Sugoicon's contest.

Do we have any idea yet when the AMV panel/workshop will be? I'd kind of like to make it to that as well, but I'm hoping they don't have it on Friday sometime...

I don't think there wound up being a panel/workshop for AMVs there, and if there was I totaly missed it between DDR and ITG... meh...

Congrats to all you crazy creators who got your videos into the contest. It was difficult to judge, but I enjoyed it ^^

I actually didn't sit in on the AMV showing nor the Contest on Saturday. I was off playing DDR and ITG as well as entertaining my old roomate from when I lived in Lexington.

Aside from that I WAS there all weekend and did see the contest during the reshowing on Sunday. I was also on the panel of judges that basically chose the technical winner.

I was there, and I probably saw you guys, but didn't realize it. I was wearing an ACEN staff shirt (camo on friday, light blue ragland style on saturday) and had my denim over shit and stuff.
