Questions for a n00b of contests

Post by [Mike of the Desert] » Tue Feb 15, 2005 7:10 am

Let's go ;P Thanks in advance for every second of your time :D

1. The amv contests are generally sites when you upload a video in a server and? Or you really have to go in a travel somewhere?
2. There are contests (if they are what I said about the upload) when only it is needed a link to the download?

Ok so for now that's it, I feel a noob .---.

Convention-run AMV Contests (i.e. The Ones That Matter, with the notable exception of the VCAs) usually give you the option. Some will let you upload your video no matter what format is in, some will let you upload your video as long as it's in a certain format, and some don't have uploads and require you to mail your videos to them.

Some conventions require that you purchase a membership to the convention in order to enter the contest (whether or not you go). Most don't care. Obviously it kind of looks bad if the contest winner isn't there, I think at Anime Boston 2003 only 2-3 of the winners were actually in attendance out of the 5 or 6 that won prizes.

My general rule is that you should make every attempt you can to only submit to cons where you're attending. Some people abide by this, some people don't, but it's basically whatever you feel comfortable with.

Online contests are usually like this, but any convention contest will require a "physical" copy of the video, be it on CD, DVD, MiniDV tape, or FTP submission.
