Although I am very glad that "artistic and technical" have been added to the Otakon awards, I have one suggestion.
Why not keep the original 5 categories and make all videos eligible for "Technical" and "Artistic" awards? That's how most contests do it and to be honest, you're going to be disqualifying a lot of great videos that are "artistic" or "technically astounding" in other categories. Namely, I imagine quite a few of the technical videos will be in action while a number of "artistic" in the drama or romance categories.
Please take that into consideration. It wouldn't require that much changing to make them seperate awards outside the categories and all videos qualifying. Either way, I'm glad to see the addition of these.

I'm going to have to agree with DW on this one. I think that most creators would argue that the artistic/technical merits of a video transcend a simple genre classification. Adding those awards as a side item in addition to the regular ones would definately be a welcome addition. But to force videos to compete in that area alone seems nonsensical.

I had to agree with the otrhers on this one, I always thought the Otakon catagoires were quite fine. I don't really see technical/artistic as a stand alone catagory since any video can be artistic ands/or technical. I have to agree that it should be an award by itself rather than a catagory, otherwise how are you going to group a say, for example, great pure action video that is extreamly well done technically? Just have an additional award for techincal and or artistic merit.
