Now we're branching back into what is/isn't considered trolling.
Meatwad's opinion is that you're helping the contests by giving them material to play and giving the audience something to watch.
Ryvannis' opinion is that you're turning every contest into the exact same show and disrespecting your fellow editors.
While there are opinions for both side and I'm sure that discussions will be had, I'm personally in Ryvannis' camp.
As I've said before, I believe the audience will always find something to be entertained by. While it is better for them to have quality entries to watch, unless they're used to it they're more than likely not going to care or notice. It's a bit depressing but such is life.
As for the "little cons", it really does fall on the contest coordinator to work for their contest. I advised someone who had never once coordinated a contest and was running the show for a first ever convention in the area and they easily pulled in over 100 entries by simply advertising and putting themselves out there. I understand that not every coordinator has tons of time but if all you're planning on doing is throwing a thread up in the contest section that you occasionally update then you shouldn't expect a massive amount of quality entries.
This also goes back to what I said earlier about being picky. A decent amount of conventions simply don't care. They're putting on an AMV contest because it's a requested event but beyond that, it's far from a priority for them. I've seen AMV contests lost, broken, rescheduled, and even hidden away in what is basically a closet. Now I ask, if they don't care about us then why should we care about them?
I also believe it's disrespectful to your fellow editors to continuously spam the same videos to every con considering some people make entries specifically for that convention. This hurts or even eliminates the chances of other videos that maybe haven't been out winning tons of awards. It also makes every single contest the same, which can be miserable to sit through if you attend more than a single convention a year. It can be seen as laziness for an editor to basically say "Well, I made a single video. Time to send it out to every convention to try and win shit." too.
There is quite a bit more to be said and I'm sure it will indeed be said but for now I'll back out again. I have oreos waiting for me...
