The irony is literally killing me right now.

Apologies if I'm picking at ya. Spreadsheets on your site say otherwise man. :|

I generally just submit the ones I go to and maybe an extra on the side here or there. I don't care if it's all for putting on a great show but it is contest and I figured it'd should be fair in the sense of competition/freshness. I'd like think that's too much but again it's just a pet peeve of mine when I see editors submitting to multiple contests as repeated content is 4/5 of the shows nowadays.

Now we're branching back into what is/isn't considered trolling.

Meatwad's opinion is that you're helping the contests by giving them material to play and giving the audience something to watch.

Ryvannis' opinion is that you're turning every contest into the exact same show and disrespecting your fellow editors.

While there are opinions for both side and I'm sure that discussions will be had, I'm personally in Ryvannis' camp.
As I've said before, I believe the audience will always find something to be entertained by. While it is better for them to have quality entries to watch, unless they're used to it they're more than likely not going to care or notice. It's a bit depressing but such is life.
As for the "little cons", it really does fall on the contest coordinator to work for their contest. I advised someone who had never once coordinated a contest and was running the show for a first ever convention in the area and they easily pulled in over 100 entries by simply advertising and putting themselves out there. I understand that not every coordinator has tons of time but if all you're planning on doing is throwing a thread up in the contest section that you occasionally update then you shouldn't expect a massive amount of quality entries.
This also goes back to what I said earlier about being picky. A decent amount of conventions simply don't care. They're putting on an AMV contest because it's a requested event but beyond that, it's far from a priority for them. I've seen AMV contests lost, broken, rescheduled, and even hidden away in what is basically a closet. Now I ask, if they don't care about us then why should we care about them?
I also believe it's disrespectful to your fellow editors to continuously spam the same videos to every con considering some people make entries specifically for that convention. This hurts or even eliminates the chances of other videos that maybe haven't been out winning tons of awards. It also makes every single contest the same, which can be miserable to sit through if you attend more than a single convention a year. It can be seen as laziness for an editor to basically say "Well, I made a single video. Time to send it out to every convention to try and win shit." too.

There is quite a bit more to be said and I'm sure it will indeed be said but for now I'll back out again. I have oreos waiting for me...

i agree with ryvannis to an extent, like it gets annoying seeing the same video sent to every contest, especially if its consistently winning
and personally i think 15 cons is waaaaay to much for me Dx meatwad u troll

but i think the flipside to that is that every contest audience is different. i've had videos make finals at several cons but only win once or vids that missed finals several times win. i also feel like the majority of the audience are much less involved with amvs than we are so many of the videos, despite being constantly in contests, are new to them.

limiting your entries for me is really just out of respect for other editors 0: like it suuuucks seeing a finalist list come out and realizing you have no chance against something that has won a category at multiple conventions prior or has been out for like a year, y'know? there definitely isn't a definitive answer. the whole "helping small cons" thing, though, makes it seem like your videos are a gift to the con instead of something that is preventing those going to the con from seeing their videos :/ but then again, if i only sent to cons i went to, i'd be broke and/or have no exposure so i'm a hypocritical butt

Let me just say one last thing...I don't know how many of you have experience a small convention that either limits with anti-troll rules or has attendance only rules in place, but they generally are not good and the audiences are small an tend to have a lot of people walk out. Respect for your fellow editors can only go so far and I personally focus more on a win limit as opposed to a hard submission limit. Not be be rude, but making finals is a lot easier than winning so if that's an issue then the editor might wanna step back and see how they need to improve to make it into more contests. There are plenty of people in the community that are willing to and would LOVE to give feedback and help other editors get better, myself included.

Bit of a tangent, yes, but cons that do a terrible job at things and show no willingness to change or fix things should be allowed (or even encouraged) to fail.
