I have been considering entering mine actually...but I would need to fix somethings first. When would we need to submit by?Brakus wrote:Just want to drop a line and see if you entrants were interested in sending your videos to AWA's contests. I'm on VAT staff, and I know there were some videos that I wanted to show last year in the VAT, but couldn't because we never received them. Please consider sending your entries so we can show them there, too.

Since I live less than 10 minutes from AWA, I'm going to submit mine just so I can see if it gets the same crowd reaction. AWA has 3 different contest that all have different rules and deadlines. Since your "Moe Moe Rebellion" AMV premiered at Otakon, you'd have to send it to AWA's expo contest that has a deadline of September 2nd. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... 5&t=105480VivifxAMV wrote:I have been considering entering mine actually...but I would need to fix somethings first. Well, you COULD technically send it to the Professional contest, but you're encouraged to send brand-new works to that one so that none of the contestants voting on your video will know whose it is.kireblue wrote:Since I live less than 10 minutes from AWA, I'm going to submit mine just so I can see if it gets the same crowd reaction. Okay I will do that -- considering I have time to fix it then. I am afraid I really have no idea how none of this con AMV contest stuff works -- since I have only ever really entered Otakon, but I will definitely try to educate myself XD Thank you so much ^^kireblue wrote: Since I live less than 10 minutes from AWA, I'm going to submit mine just so I can see if it gets the same crowd reaction. It's just a matter of reading the rules thoroughly. AWA is actually harder to decipher than any other contest out there, lol...VivifxAMV wrote:Okay I will do that -- considering I have time to fix it then. Re: The Otakon 2011 Thread
Late to the party but congrats to all winners and finalists.
Iron Editor was wonderful and I want to thank the staff for recruiting me as a judge. It's definitely less stressful than being in the hot seat myself, though I know that time is coming up again soon. You were also a great host, Scintilla. Everyone loved you. Think you want to do it again next year?
My thoughts on some of the vids:
Trailer/Parody
I loved Taken. The scene selections and incorporating that cell phone were brilliant. Everything was so tight and crisp and it flowed sooo well.
Drama/Serious
@Miracle Falcon: Letting Go was very emotional. I own A Thousand Suns and normally I skip over that track because I'm so pumped from "Wretches and Kings", the prior song. Your video actually made me like this song a lot more, so
Action
I chose Sleeping Beauty. I tend to have a soft spot for videos without lyrics because (though I've never personally tried it) I think that can be considerably more challenging to pull off. I rely on lyrics to do a fair amount of the work for me.
Romance/Sentimental
I surprisingly really liked Beautiful Me. I was most moved by that one and it was yet another situation where and amv made me actually like the song and realize that Selena Gomez actually has a decent set of pipes.
@Kire: I knew you couldn't make it to the con, so I was in the audience thinking "man, I know he's soooo going to regret not being here because people are loooving this."
Upbeat/Dance
"Always Looking Back" was definitely beautiful, but I feel like it could have done even better in another category.
Comedy
Business Time was my favorite without a doubt. I laughed so hard every time I watched it, and the typography effects were awesome.
So yeah, another year, another set of wonderful videos. Congrats again to everyone.

Let's Rock!: AIIIIIIIIIINT NOOOTHIN WROOOOOONG WITH THAT! I was seriously headbanging along there. I actually downloaded it the instant you put it online (saw you win at Iron Editor in AUSA).
Thanks guys! As someone that tends to make videos more on the dramatic side, it was definitely a fun change of pace to see people enjoying it. It's just kind of funny that the video I spent the least amount of time making turned out to be my favorite thus far. So I guess you just never really know sometimes.Junipertay wrote: I had to go with Nightmistress85's "Let's Rock" 'cause it totally did rock and was the embodiment of Upbeat. It really got my blood pumping, and it was fun to see it played in IE and that it got everyone in the audience to clap along to the beat!!

It's funny you mention that because in recent years, videos to that particular song tends to win at Otakon, and then videos to "A Thousand Miles" get runner-up. For that particular category though, I chose Majou Shoujo Requiem. The music was gorgeous and everything flowed beautifully, accentuating it even more. It was powerful.Junipertay wrote: I picked "Deceiver" because it was excellently done! The editing and timing were great, the song fit perfectly with Princess Tutu, and overall it was just a really well thought-out video. I did hear some people seated near me saying that the song was overused, but I think if you're able to make a good AMV with any song, it doesn't matter how often it's been used before.
