Adobe After Effects?

I just got Adobe After effects with the 2 years of wasted fridays babysitting. (have nothing better to spend it on) Now I have it and Im slightly confused. o_0 Ok, so I found out how to split stuff and add basic effects, but thats about it. You know those insanely cool videos that were made on Adobe After effects with the room and the (i don't know what to call them) like, theme? Here is an extreme example:

SORRY IF THATS UR VID! I admire it so much. Anyways I would esecially like to know how to do the rubiks cute effect lolz!
ANYWAYS i don't want to be an effect whore on all my videos, so I would like to try those videos with the pictures in the room, etc. (i think Im really confusing lolz!) How do I acheive those effects? Also when i try to keyframe, the "add keyframe" button is only there sometimes, like when I try to mask frame by frame it wont let me add another keyframe....SORRY IM SOOOOOO CONFUSING im just plain confused lol!! ask me questions about this confusing post and ill answer them lolz!
