Concerning Masking in the Pan/Crop Menu..

Post by lingchou » Sat Dec 22, 2007 8:40 pm

Okay for xmas my dad is planning on buying me a Sony Vegas.

The ones he is able to buy are (he says):

Sony Vegas 6.0 Pro Platinum
or
Sony vegas 8.0 Pro Platinum

(I'm pretty sure thats what he meant, he just said SONY VEGAS 6 AND 8. And I was like..well..were they Platinum? And he's like yeah..)

But I'm interested mainly on masking features, specifically the one located in the pan/crop menu under the timeline button. I'm wondering which one, if any, has the option? I have the Trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 Movie Studio Platinum right now and when I checked for it, it wasn't there!!

So if anyone could help me on this, I'd be appreciative!
Thanks.
Yurrh.

None of the Movie Studio versions have the Pan/Crop Masking feature discussed in the Idiot's Guide sticky at the top of this sub-forum.

Pre-version 8, you want the versions of Vegas WITHOUT the words 'Movie Studio'. For version 8, the full-fledged copy with the Pan/Crop Masking feature is called Vegas Pro 8.

Unfortunately, Vegas Pro 8 costs over $500. Luckily, the Vegas 6 deal at B&H is now $79.

Just to clarify, the Vegas 6 in the B&H deal should have the masking feature, too. (It was first implemented in version 5.)

Without a student discount, it's cheaper to acquire Pro 8 by purchasing Vegas 6 from B&H and then upgrading for $235.

I have vegas 5.0 and I can mask just fine.. so really I'd go with 6 if I were you, cause I've heard 8 kinda sucks.
